Jackson Hole the blackhole of the ski industry.

1300 for a pass is still damn expensive. I remember you worked at Hood last summer. How does the work situation there compare to T-line, including days to ski?

easily the sickest place ive ever skied. the town is sick too. teton village and downtown jackson and the surrounding area. im going in a few weeks there is even stuff to do there during summer.

i think you are displaying to us the exact problem/status quo of jackson hole - an egotistical mountain that thinks its the most badass thing in the world. Ok jackson hole, you win for being the most badass mountain and everyone knows it. So of course you are going to have a lot of sick riders......it is understood. You win and have always won, end of story.

No I am saying that Jackson Hole is understood. It is understood that its a sick mountain with sick riders. I dont think this person realizes that.

Jackson is sick for big mountain and pow but it has no real park scene. If they invested in a solid park Jackson would be ridiculous. We are completely out of the park skiing loop in Jackson and have to travel to SLC for some decent hits.

If I tell one more person I am doing park laps and they respond "in Grand Teton National Park" I am going to loose it.

So basically you want the ski industry to become more involved with jackson so skiers can come there and put a buzillion tracks in your fresh powder and bomb holes under all of your cliffs and a bunch more people in your lift line...
I think maybe Jackson is already great the way it is.

that's how baker is... no real park. but errrthang else is sick.
sometimes I had a real park there for the few days with no pow

oh, right.
Baker sucks, it always rains and has super slow lifts, not to mention there are a million gapers.
don't come here.

He isnt saying jackson gets no love, he's saying the riders are way underrated and arent noticed by the industry. to some extent this is true since there are sooo many "nobodies" who simply rip. Most guys on the first tram on a good pow day are absolutely sick. I think, though, that the problem isn't in the industry, its in the public. The ski community, at least the newschool segment, wants to see tricks and park skiing, as seen in the comment about henriks sw 12 in the BC. Jackson breeds a different sort of rider, though. Instead of jibbing and spinning, straightlines and hucks are the big things at JH. I dont think that the riders are being overlooked, i think the community is looking for something different.

I don't know why you'd want to go to Jackson Hole to ski park. You can ski park in Indiana. Then there's places like Crystal that don't even have a park, don't need it.

No one should ever come to Jackson for the park but if you live here it would be nice to have a park for the dry spells.

haha, i wasnt talking bout Baker. I meant to say, if the thread creator is saying JH sucks because it doesnt get enought attention/support, I think thats rediculous (if hes speaking bout park skiing).

I remember goin on a trip to Teton Village 4 years ago and the park was straight illin. Such a sick jump and great rails. Each year it steadily declined until now, when they have to park.

Im pretty sure they have a park still. Either way if your skiing park in Jackson your there for the wrong reason.

There is still a park. It's small, but totally decent. It's great to have when it hasn't snowed in a while and temperatures have been wacky. Even when the snow is good, it's still fun to cruise through on the way back down to the gondi or tram.

the ski scene doesnt take jackson seriously because the mountain faces east. east facing mountains get less snow, colder temperatures, and alot more snow variation because come february the sun destroys east south and west faces.

The ski scene takes Jackson seriously, accessiblity just keeps some of the hype away. Imagine if a mountain like Jackson was in summit county.

Well, I don't work for the resort, and really don't work in the winter other than shooting photos. So, life is good! Just spent last summer up at T-Line. 'Twas fun, but waking up at 5am a few days a week was not that awesome!

Julie, you coming out again next year? i met you with lapier, who i think is coming to meet me in NZ in like a couple days.Interesting to see what people had to say bout this haha

Yep thats what the tourists told me all season...and then we would laugh at them. Keep hating, it keeps the lift lines short/non-existent.

hahaha I to am from jackson Hole. Part of the crew that reps tall tees and oversized clothing, goggles under the helmet steeze. The kids who are into the newschool revolution. The ones who get insane amounts of hate from 50 year old assholes who think their hardcore when the bigest drop of their day is jumping off the chairlift and their apparently too cool to ski the park "cause thats only for snowboarders" Sure we all can shred big mountain as good if even better than the next average "hardcore" big mountain skier Jackson is used to but we're also training in the park everyday. There is tons of talent in Jackson Hole. Come to Jackson and watch some of the middle and high school students and theirs a few that you'll look at at say wow, those kids are going places. Sure they can destroy big mountain lines just like their parents did and do and the reason they moved to jackson but their also throwing switch tail 10s, corks, double flips all on a pretty mediocre park. Now to get to my point Jackson Hole has never been a place to embrace change in ski culture and that is why not many people have heard about any of this talent. We did not have one slopestyle event this year! None, zero, park events in Jackson this year and we had one last year. Its quite a shame. Our park crew is more focused on building the stupid snow sculpture at the bottom of our mountain than working on the park. No disrespect to the park crew but jackson needs to gets its priorities straight. And all the talk about how sick our big mountain terrain is, you know how many big mountain comps we had this year??? ONE and that was for under 18 years old competitors. The reason jackson gets no recognition for the local talent is because they dont try. Simple as that

quite the first post you got there.

all I'm going to say to that is: I wasn't aware it was the ski hill's responsibility for getting riders recognition. Last time I checked, you don't become known by hanging out at your home hill waiting for shit to happen.

I was about to post the same thing.

No one gives a shit about riders from my local mountain, should I go make a thread about it?

There's no "scene" in Jackson when you compare it to Whistler/Aspen/Park City.

Other places are like that too Revelstoke has insane terrain and plenty of talent that you've never heard of, I'm sure a lot of mountains are the same.

Powder does their ski test in Jackson every year. I'm stoked to go there for the first time and get rowdy. I've only heard amazing things.

There's a lot of suuuuuper easy sled access stuff around jackson, and quick touring/boot pack slackcountry laps too.

The one main difference I noticed while skiing around jackson vs. whistler is that the landings off of cliffs are actually steeper than the takeoffs. Whistler, most landings are pretty damn flat.

It's just a different type of rock/mountain formation. Love it there! Can't wait to go back next season...
