Did you guys hear that #1 freestyle skier in the world jeremy bloom is taking a year off to play football and lost all sponserships. what do you think?

 
I heard they were taking NCAA to court, so it hasn't been fully decided yet...more info on powdermag.com

he's taking 4 years off to play football at least. he already announced he's ending all his sponsorship deals to be eligible. ncaa = bullshit

ya i heard his interview, he's going to play football over skiing , and as of right now no endorsements, but hes going to court to try to fight it.

he should of tryed to get on one of those shows like dateline or something (maybe thats not the right show) to give ncaa a bad image and push them to change the rules or something, It sucks what theyre doing to bloom though

He terminated all of his sponsorships on Monday. Check out dailycamera.com. He is going to try to compete this winter without sponsors and is planning to work towards 2006. But it's still bump skiing if you ask me.

 
For all CU buffs fan this isn't the worst news. But utter bullshit no doubt. His sponsor deals have nothing to do with football. It would be like not letting you flip burgers during the summer because you are playing sports. It defies common sense.

 
He's been tearing it up at practice and the Buffs love him. Go Buffs. Thing is he'll lose some solid dough from Tommy Hilfiger (modeling) and others. You are right, I'm sure he'll still be on dynastar/ Lange, and he'probably get to ski more powder.

 
No, he cannot take ANY free gear. The rules for football player/college student-athletes are ridiculously strict. I guess maybe he could get loaner skis, like the football gear, but you are not allowed to keep shit.

The NCAA should be paying the athletes in sports that make money. It is as simple as that.

 
kinda funny his coach doesnt care about all that stuff wit skiing he supported him going to the olympics and all that cause its such a huge thing, its the damn ncaa thats fuckin everything up

I know everyone here like skiing more than life itself but think about, the league minumun for an nfl player is soooo much more than he could hope to make skiing. I thinks hes going on the right path, who gives a fuck about the olympics anyway, he's in his skiing prime now and it wasn't good enough, time to move on.

You guys are missing the whole picture. If bloom was allowed to keep his sponserships for skiing it would open the door to so much underhanded boosters/alumni sponsoring of other athletes in order to attract them to their university. Say you have super star football player who wants to go to said university, yet they can't give him the whole scholarship he needs, so the rich alumni booster decides to fund him through a sponsorship for another 'sport'. Everything would turn into a scam for collegiate athletes.

 
it's true if they just made a broad decision it would open the door to all that. but it's so completely unfair to the athelete in this specific case that they should have made a ruling in favor of jeremy. it's so obvious to everyone that his skiing sponsorships have nothing to do with football, but the ncaa doesn't wanna budge anywhere. bloom spends his whole life devoted to these two sports and now the ncaa forces him to give one up just cause they don't want to give any basketball players any ideas for finding money

just cause he lost his sponsers doesnt mean he has to quit skiing. and i think i would pick college football over sponserships just cause playing football is one of the best experiences you can have in life, and let alone being lucky enough to play college on a good team. he made a good decision.
