I'm not looking up anything catholic. Catholicism is bad news bears in my books. It is probably the religion I agree the least with.
 
they still discredit homosexuality as a naturally occurring phenomenon, yes they label homosexual desires as tests by god. but they also claim that gays shouldn't have marriage rights because its against human nature. in the article below the author even categorizes homosexuality with murder and incest, yet even Catholics recognize circumstances where the taking of a life an acceptable and necessary aspect of human nature (second article for reference). it seems catholics have the inablity to relate to others, just because an individual person does not have homosexual desires doesn't mean that a minority of earth's population having homosexual desires is against human nature

homosexuality: catholics= fine with orientation, the sexy funtime part however, bad because in their views sex is for creating children, and meant for a man and a women. (not quite that simple but it sums it up)

and the only time when killling someone is okay is in self defense, or if you cannot keep that person away from others and the rest of the community of people safe.

-the whole reason the Catholic church and other religious institutions care about the marriage issue is because they view homosexual relations as being sinful and against God's will

-you probably have witnessed this inadvertently, just didn't really recognize what it really was

-marriage is defined as something between only a man & a woman largely because of the Christian view of homosexuality, which means a religious belief is limiting the freedom of other individuals who do not share the same beliefs

so if you in particular don't care about sin, and now know that homosexuality isn't unnatural, why is marriage between a man and a woman, aside from not bearing chilren what separates a gay couple from a straight couple and why would it offend you to have marriage to be redefined?

how does having gay marriage illegal stop two people from loving each other? Im partially being serious and partially being the devils advocate, but the government can't stop me from loving someone any more/less
 
it doesn't offend me to have marriage redefined. i just don't see why two men (or two women) want to have the right to be married and then be equal to a man & woman who are married. it's just not the same thing.

it's like comparing black and white people, and saying that not only do black people want to have equal rights as white people, they want to be white as well. (or the other way around)
 
It's not like that at all. It's more like black people want to be able to sit wherever they want on the bus, and they should be allowed to.

• to me, true marriage is still something which only happens heterosexually, and it has nothing to do with equal rights
 
This. If marriage never existed would anything really change? You're still together and in love, I don't see a difference. Let people have their ceremonies that signify eternal love, but will most likely end in ten years anyways.
 
"True Marriage" are words, nothing more. The covenant of marriage is something that was perpetuated by the church for a few thousand years to ensure procreation to continue indoctrinating more people back into the church.

The "equal rights" of marriage are afforded by the government; tax breaks, health care regulation, dying wishes/estate care, etc. Anyone who is in love and making a commitment to another person, should be afforded all of the same 'rights' regardless of the gender of their loved one.

I also like how your whole "it isn't natural, people would die out because we're going against natural selection'' argument fell flat on its face - so now the words "true marriage" somehow mean heterosexual. They're words, literally, that's it.
