ITS A SWITCH UP

There was a thread about how switch ups should be changed to swaps because its much easier to say. That may be part of it?
 
Is there an internationnal comity for official ski trick names that we absolutely have to follow? You understand when someone says swap or change up, thats the point of giving names to trick, now let people use the one they prefer
 
Do they have an internet site? because this could lighten the ski gabber a lot, making all "what's that trick" threads useless
 
The way I see it is this. The trick name is switch-up. Always has been and always will be. I use swap as an abbreviation for switch-up when I'm talking about rail combo tricks because saying switch-up a bunch of times in a row takes longer and just sounds unnecessary. For example in stead of saying "That was a sick 270 on frontside switch-up 270 out" I might say "That was a sick 2 on front swap 2 out". Think of kinda of like switch 1080 mute grab vs. switch 10 mute.
 
yeesh how lazy can you get?instead of switch up (8 letters) you abbreviate it to swap (4 letters haha i think you can count) which sounds really different and i personally dont like it...why not type sw-up or something?
 
I think you are right on that. I don't understand where swap came from, why not swup? I don't really care about people saying change up though, I feel like it's just another word, like different places have their own dialect for the same language. And I still don't get why someone could get angry at people using another word than switch up for a trick's name
 
i always would type sw-up. and alot of other people dotoo. so when i read it i read "swup". and have slowly just started saying swap. i've also recently heard people saying "front up" and "back up" which i like alot too.
 
im pretty sure that that combo is called a Crown these days. Crown, K-fed, Ray-fed, switchup swap, its all good
 
Dude I'm not talking about typing, I'm talking about actually speaking person to person. It is a lot easier to say "front swap (or swup)" than "frontside switch-up". Yes I abbreviated another word, but why not abbreviate when talking to someone who understands the terminology you are using and the tricks that are being done? It is far easier to say, and like the switch 10 example I used it has been done for a long time now.

The fact that this has turned into a legititmate debate would ordinarilly be suprising, except for the fact that this is summer and I'm on NS (hey look I abbreviated Newschoolers!). If people don't like the name for a trick then call it something else, but hating on people for using one thing and actually having a debate about what the "official" name for a trick should be is just dumb. The lack of a rule book and a dictionary of proper terms is one of the things that keeps freeskiing "free" and seperates us from crap like FIS, and I for one would like to keep it that way.
 
Ok well ive never heard anyone say swap so i didn't know thats what you were referring to however I don't think its the same at abbreviating Newschoolers to NS or Mute Grab to MuteIf we were doing that then we would be calling in an SU (since you take the major letters like NS) or you could knock off the Up because like mute grab and other grabs its obvious its a grab so Switch Up, Frontside Switch Up, etc could just knock off the Up and be Switch or Front(side) Switchhaha im just picking apart your analogy but when it comes down to it i just dont like having a completely different word for the same trick its like calling NS, Ski Site or something, swap is a similar word to switch up but it isnt exactly the same thing and to be honest i don't like the way it soundsHaha stoked on a legitimate debate but hate the people that think they are all superior and cool saying "who fucking cares" or "this is gay" yeesh take the internet seriously much?
 
I thought sex change was reserved for a rotation on a box without hopping.

I am wrong, but I like applying the term to that trick.
 
Eh, thats fair. To each his own, which was sort of the point of my last post. Everyone should call it what they want and not worry if someone else calls it something different.
 
It's called a switch up. Yeah, you can shorten things like switch 1080 to switch 10 for ease of speaking, but that is just shortening the actual word, not completely replacing the word with a different one. I actually never say switch up, I just say front switch or blind switch. Therefor if you want to shorten it, just say front switch or blind switch. Keeps the trick name, and surprise, it's one syllable just like swap which makes it equally as fast and easy to say and 100% less retarded sounding than "swap".
