scientist predict that in years to come the sport of skiing will become extinct due to global warming and the international lack of snow... i have noticed it and im getting scared...

Aha young man. But really, this requires a more in-depth understanding of abyssal flow regimes and the advection of heat. Whilst the average temperature of the Earth may rise by 1-2 degrees centigrade, the overall reduction in temperature contrast between polar and equatorial regions means that for some areas (Europe in particular), existing oceanic heat advection cells will diminish resulting in overall, a colder environment in these regions (note: this will be balanced out by a higher increase in temperature in other areas). Add to this the formation of less dense sea water in the zones of north atlantic deepwater formation due to fresh water melt from artic ice fields and you also have further reduction in conveyor circulation from equator to pole. Net effect = colder in Europe and accumulation of snow. That said, the effect of cold on the moisture content of air will lesson the water carrying ability of this medium so whilst temperature may well drop in some regions and snow last longer, precipitation volumes may also be reduced.

this winter is supposed to be another big one. A milder el nino. (or so they say) i hope they are right. I am miss skiing/winter.

Actually, this global warming may lead to a period of much much colder weather all over the world...The warming is melting glaciers and icebergs which are speculated to be the reason for the high levels of fresh water in the northern seas. What usually happens is that warm salt waters from the gulf stream reach higher latitudes, they give up much of their heat to the atmosphere, causing warmer weather. Once they keep going northward and have given off all of their heat, the waters become dense and it sinks way down into the ocean. This is what runs what we call 'the great ocean conveyor' once this water has sunk, new water from the gulf stream must be drawn up to replace the sunken water. But the northern oceans have been seeing increasing levels of fresh water, they are not positive of the cause, but if it keeps up, the fresh water doesnt sink like the salt water does, so this blocks the ocean conveyor. Bottom line, if it gets blocked, northern areas of the world could see an average temperature decrease of 5-10 degrees fahrenheit. The great ocean conveyor has been blocked in the past... it could do it again....

if it got warmer more water would evaporate. There would be more water vapor in the air. This means more water that would turn into snow in winter. By the time global warming would warm the earth enough to make now snow we would be dead.
