this could have negative side effects. As many people know, the incentive of rewarding the same amount of prize money to women as men is the hope that women will start to step up their level of skiing. But the question is whether the female ACL can cope with the added pressure larger jumps, etc. Check out http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/11/magazine/11Girls-t.html?scp=2&sq=hurt+girls+soccer&st=nyt. I know this is an article about soccer, but the main focus is on the ACL, one of the most commonly injured ligaments due to skiing.
First off, I would like to say that I think it is a great thing that women will be receiving the same amount of prize money and that I am not a sexist. My fundamental question is how can women receive the same pay as professional male skier, but in a way that will not force women into a situation in which they are more likely to injury themselves.

Skiing has always progressed in a way that makes it more dangerous and increases the likelihood of injuries. I also don't buy into the idea that there needs to be increases in money to convince people to push the sport, skiing has always been progressed by people who have a desire to push themselves and the sport.

if they're getting the same amount of money as the men doesn't that mean they should have as large of a following behind them, and they should be going as big doing the same tricks as the boys.
when was the last time you saw a female do a switch 1080 or a double cork over an 80fter?
there has been a couple times over the past two or three years when i've thought "is this whole 'girl power' thing being forced?" Seriously though - why do we need to push it so much?

^do you really think that a semi-pro skier should have the screen name bignig? im sure your sponsors are stoked on that. you could not be more white. your ignorant and it will catch up with you.

exactly what i think man, they cant get the same amount of money if they dont have a audience as big as mens scene does, cause why would sponsors give more money when they will not get much more out of it. i know it sucks for girls in the industry but if they really wanted to make money they wouldnt be skiing in the first place.
