It finally happened

After 6 years of going to ski camp (High North for 3 years and Momentum for 3) and 8 sessions, I am now, for the first time the oldest camper (34). Indeed, even with Momentum running a mogul camp, I am the only "adult" (as measured by drinking age which is 19 or older in BC). Aren't there any other old farts out there who don't want to make a fool of themselves on kickers and rails or are you just waiting for the adult only camp so as not to be embarrassed by the fact that 13 year olds are so much better than you (they are but who cares, it is fun to watch)?

I wish i was there so you wouldn't have to suffer that indignity. You get used to it after a while, but it's a lot cooler being an old rocker than not rocking at all.

you are my new hero. we need more older people like you!

and your k is at 666. let me fix that

I don't feel as bad now about wanting to go... I guess its alright if you're in your mid 20's and not an expert to show up to a camp?

Hear ya. I was a year older than you when I hit up my one and only glacier camp. I think the answer is that there are other folks in the same boat, but so few that you're unlikely to find yourself in the same session as they are by chance.

The camp was a great experience, but I think that if I were to do it again, I'd want to have a handful of adults in the same group. The young bucks brought a lot of stoke and energy to the table, but all things being equal having some adults in the mix would have been nice.

I think the only way to make that happen would be to get organized in advance by starting a thread in January and February and picking a camp/session to hit at the same time. I think there's at least one adult's only session out there, but those are usually in June, and the weather's way more likely to be good in July.

Hell yes, I slid my first rail at High North 6 years ago and I was 28. There has always been a few adults in every camp I have attended, except this year. Indeed, my buddy who was here last week with me is older than me and still goes to camp every year. 3 or 4 years ago there was a girl in my group that looked and sounded very familiar and it turned out it was Ingrid Backstrom, coming to learn park for the first time. She had never slid a rail in her life and was washing out and falling just like everyone in the world does the first time (I do have pics but I will spare her dignity ;) ). It was funny because, at first, she was kinda scared of poppy kicker type jumps even though she stomps 50 footers in the back country. If she can show up to learn with the kids anyone should be able to. If more people just "did it" we wouldn't need a thread to organize a group of adults.

That's awesome man, keep on rockin! I'm in my early 20's and was really tempted to go this year but just couldn't make it happen. I've never been to a camp and thought I was getting too old... but you just proved me wrong.

We talked over on TGR, but I'll say it again here. You know what you need to do!
Head south and shred pow with the homies!!

OP is the man. I'm nineteen and was unsure about trying to go, next year if I have the money I'll do it.

you're not even that old don't worry about it, i skied squaw this spring and met a 54!! year old he was doing rodeos, backflips blind 2 outs off s rail, destroying this flat down rail blind swap to blind 2 out.

MY HERO as well as you are, i hope that when im even in my 50's i'll be doing this, the only old lady still wearing tall ts ftw.

That dude's all around Tahoe, his kids are about 18 and they shred so hard. I see him at Northstar all the time and Boreal early season.

Judging by the thread title 'it finally happened', i expected this thread to be about sammys first triple.different story though. OP you are the fucking man!

Way more legit too.

Keep shredding man! You are the embodiment of everything skiers should aspire to be.

I hope I'm still skiing and doing what you're doing when I'm your age.

Haha same.

And that's fucking awesome. If I could give you a hug right now I would (yes, homo).

yea i think his name is mike. that guy broke his back last season backflipping. he's the freaking boss hoss. i skied with him and his kid for a bit at northstar, and he was learning pretzels. then i saw them at hood, and we both learned frontflips off knuckles. he was the most stoked person on the mountain.

went to camp in '01 i was 19 and felt like and old fart, still one of the best summers of my life, enjoy it while you can kiddies, shit changes, we should start an 'old fart camp' and show these younguns how its done when you got nothing else to look forward to in life ;)

I just turned 18 and thought it would be a bit awkward going to Windells. But then I thought fuck it, even if I am older than most I'll still be having fun. I hope I still have that attitude in my 30s!
