Issues hitting jumps and lips switch

Just confused by this tbh. Am I supposed to just stay set in my switch and not initiate any spins until I’m completely off the lip?

legit anytime I hit any jump switch it is the most uncomfortable and ugly looking takeoff and landing. I always feel like I’ve slightly caught an edge or am just flat out unbalanced on take off. Advice please

yeah everyone seems to agree a really key tip to keep in mind when learning switch takeoffs is you take off then you start spinning (especially for just a switch 180 or similar). just do a bunch of them and keep that in mind, you don't need to be in a hurry, the worst case scenario is what, you land a little sideways? whereas like you said catching an edge on the takeoff can destroy you

You mean don’t start any moves or spins until I’m off? And am I supposed to keep my foot dropped back even when going off the lip?

Am I supposed to try and pop at all?

Don’t even know what I was doing yesterday and went to go for it on the first big jump at breck and basically initiated a turn so early it looked like I was trying to butter, edge caught and I just fell over the jump onto the knuckle.

yeah exactly, that's the biggest danger when learning switch takeoffs honestly. i wouldn't stagger my feet as you take off, i'd keep them parallel and pop then spin (and you don't have to set the spin hard anyway). you don't have to pop super hard but it will help to pick your feet up a little bit anyway and as you lift your knees a little you can start the spin

you've got exactly the right idea, don't hurry the spin. just keep practicing it and being patient
