Islamic Stereotyping

I'm writing a paper write now about the stereotypes of Islam that we have in our news, TV, and other media items. I have a few examples already, but I was wondering if anyone else knows of another that they can share. An article online or a youtube clip would be perfect, just something that stereotypes Islamic kinship, gender, and/or the religion itself. Thanks!
 
one stereo type is that muslims hate other religions, oh wait thats true. muslims are at war with christians, jews, and hindus.

thats easy to say after the fact, slugger. ive read enough of your posts to have a pretty good idea that youre not the biggest fan of the conservitive intellect (if you can label such a thing broadly).

also, youve been around long enough to know that sarcasm doesnt do well in text.
 
only if youre talking about a select group of muslims. the muslim guy that lives down the street from you probalby doesnt get down that way.

i know i know but as retarded as it sounds, i wish you could've heard the way i intended it to sound. but anyways, the reason i even said that was because my extreme-right wing great uncle always used to email my dad these articles about how Islam is a religion of hatred and violence and they're all out to get us. unfortunately, my dad deleted those emails so i can't use them for this paper. i apologize for the misuse of sarcasm.

and i actually do know some Muslims and they are the nicest people you will ever meet.

but you wanted stereotypes and i gave you one that happens too be true if you live in certain parts of the world....... so it is both stereotype and fact.

Muslims= Terrorists

Terrorists + Jack Bauer + Entertainment

Thus, Muslims + Jack Bauer= Entertainment

And I add...

Thousands of Muslim Terrorists are in Prison.

Jack Bauer is now in Prison

Given the premise that Jack Bauer + Muslims= entertainment...

Prison now = entertainment
 
Check out the book "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi. It only takes a couple hours and should be really useful for what you're doing.
 
oh dayum we're writing papers and stuff on that too. we've spent a long time discussing. watch the video "Reel Bad Arabs" by Jack Shaheen.

one example ois "rules of engagement" where soldiers are accused of killing islamic civilians. u are shown a little girl that got hurt in the film and u feel sorry for her. then u realize that all the "civilians" actually shot at the soldiers, including the little girls amongst other children and women.

alladin used to have the lyric in the film saying "we'll cut off your ear if we don't like your face"(something along those line) before taking it out of the film because of complaints

the fact of the matter is that the majority of us shit our pants every time an arab is on our plane. Every time you see a man in a turban, you run the other way. Cant change that fact, if these people aren't what we say they are, then why the fuck do a good portion of them preach hate and violence against people not of their religion. Why do they bomb cities and trains full of innocent people?

yeah we watched that! it's unbelievable, we don't even realize all of it, but there's so much unnecessary anti-arab shit in our movies.

Haha, I was trying to think of a good white stereotype, but couldn't think of any good sweeping generalizations.
 
yeah, i recently finished my paper on it. and i personally think the reasoning there is stereotyping in movies is because of the ignorance of the filmamkers. i dont think they're intentionally trying to make all arabs look bad. i think the movies are the effect of stereotypes, not the cause. the news and events that happen are to blame. i never learned about arabs in school at all, and im assuming a lot of people dont, so when the major thing they hear are arabs and muslims bombing places, people get the idea that it is what they all do. and believe it or not, about 1.3 billion people are muslim. so if we were to base a people on stereotypes, we would assume that we would all be bombed by now.
