yeah seriously, offensive pictures of Jesus are drawn all the time (Piss Christ). What happens? Some people get offended, but we don't start burning embassies. A couple newspapers publish these independently, and all of a sudden the Danish embassy is being burned. Sure they're not in good taste, but it's the publishers fault. This is rediculous.

don't they understand that by burning embassies and threatening to behead people just proves the cartoon's point? we just started studying islam in school and usually he was depicted with a white veil over his face (muhammad). What i don't think they understand is that not everyone should have to follow their religious principles. I still don't think the cartoon was a good idea, but they shouldn't be reacting to it the way they do. They insult us and our ways of life all the time and you don't see us burning down their embassies!

the thing is... they are reacting in an outrageous way. and if the western/christian world decides they are getting out of hand, by bombing them we not only drop to thier level, we not only let them think violence is right, but we are going to destroy a very interesting culture that gave our species incredible technological advances thousands of years ago, in argriculture and architecture. If you think our cartoons are wrong, you should check out some of the middle eastern groups cartoons desecrating christianity and judaism.

Most muslims are fully intergrated in our communities in the western world. I think if everything wasnt made an us and them thing all the time we wouldnt be having half the problems. How would you feel when the commnity you have lived in all your life suddenly rejects you because of your religion. Your going to want to bond with other people experiencing different things. So then normally people with no previous tendancy to be extreme suddenly find themselves friends with alot of other pissed off people, the all decide to do something about the persecution their feeling and all of a sudden you have some 'terrorists' who arent living in the middle east. I know in the UK the terrorist bombers were actually british. who cares where they came from originally. Maybe some tolerance and acceptance of ordinary people and their differing view would go a long way to bringing peace back to our world.

The "Western World" is a thousand times more rational and understanding then the Middle East. I don't care who you talk to, you can't greet bombs with flowers. Not with this culture clash. It's hard to understand much of anything when you are dead.

How about the Islamic people of the Middle East? Their own governments encourage them to riot. That is also the reason those cartoons became an issue in the first place. And of course Muslims will believe anything and everything their masters tell them. Their very belief systems are dated and extremely easy to manipulate. I dare say half the Muslims on this planet are soulless sock-puppets in one way or another.

These people are beyond rational thinking. A cleric is calling for the assassination of the cartoonist, Iran has cut ALL trade with Denmark, and people have stormed embassies and killed people. You expect this same kind of trash to be "understanding?" Take off those rose tinted glasses.

The root of this whole problem is that the fundamental Islamic nations want Denmark out of the world picture. This is because Denmark holds positions in the UN that watch for violent and terrorist activities in other governments. The positions that Denmark holds are set to expire in the next year. Don't believe that is a realistic reason? Then chew on this...those cartoons were published in September...the uproar started in January. Does it not strike any of you odd that it took 4 MONTHS to get a reaction out of the "Muslims" of the world.

The only way to end this problem is to exterminate half the governments in the Middle East and fundamental Islam. Whether violent or otherwise.
 
I don’t believe the root of the problem started with Demark holding particular positions within the UN. I agree that particular parts of the Western World are very tolerant and understanding when it comes to different cultures and belief practices. I believe that other parts of the Western World are not so tolerant.

This can also be applied to the Middle East and the Muslim world. Many Muslims are tolerant people who believe in peace. By creating an us and them culture we do nothing to mend the rifts between two cultures that have a lot to learn from each other. Many advancements were made to western culture when Islam came to Europe and I know that the Islam of today have a lot to learn from some of the ways of the west.

I’m not suggesting we greet bombs with flowers, but I do believe fear is created by ignorance so perhaps educating people of both sides of the fence should be promoted. I encourage people both in the Muslim world and the Western World to educate themselves in our differences and learn from them. It’s important not to create another generation of people who are at war and who hate people because of their beliefs or the colour of their skin. Just because we are told that greeting bombs with bombs is the only possible means of mending this rift, do we have to believe it? Can none of us hope for a better more peaceful world? Or should we continue this hate and always seek vengeance and revenge. I know which kind of world I would prefer to live in!

The reason it took four months for the Muslim world to respond was because, as someone has said earlier, it was republished in other newspapers around the world. It was then that they reacted.

A knee jerk response to the problems we have in our world will never end in peace. A constructive conflict analysis of how our cultures can exist without destroying the other needs to be done.

When it comes to leadership at the very highest level, motives are rarely of trivial things like religion. Religion is just a convenient stamp to slap on it in order to motivate the undereducated. Political and economic (i.e. power) motives are the driving force of executive decisions. History has proved this countless times.

Religion is a device, not a cause. People in power are usually (not always) smarter than that. The Ayatollah wouldn't give 2-shits about Islam if he couldn't use it to control people.

It is however a different story when it comes to the common people, but that is because they do not know any better. They do believe that religion is the cause of many things. That is because religion can provide a simple explanation to a complex issue. Thats why its so convenient for leaders to use this as a tool to channel their will to gain things. If you can get someone riled up enough...they are in your pocket.

Now lets take this a step down and talk about the different mentality's between the "West" and Middle East. When I mean "West" I mean pretty much everyone else except Islamic nations.

The majority of the "West's" culture is now focused on progression, whereas most Middle East's cultures still rely heavily on preservation. Our primary driving force is to go forward. Their primary driving force is to remain where they are. Thats mostly because of religion. Religion has largely taken a backseat amongst the common "Westerners."

The less pivotal role religion takes in people, the more prosperous they will become. There are, in fact, examples of this in the Middle East. I have, in fact, also seen this first hand. Islam holds back cultural development.

You say the people need to be educated...WE ARE. People of the Middle East do not have that luxury because the people in power wont let them "educate" themselves. We are not the problem.

You can MAKE Islam can work, there is just little evidence of it. Islam as a whole is the least mature of all major religions in the world. THEY are the problem because THEY (the people as a whole) have the inability to step up.

The people cannot advance their culture...this is because the people are held back by Islam...and that is because Islam is held in place by the governments and the fundamentalist groups. They rule by fear and violence.

It is not in the least bit realistic to believe that the Middle East will resort to peace...the people in power wont let them. It is downright naive to think otherwise.

I'm sure you are asking, "why are the people in power holding them back?" Its because if they don't, they will LOSE power.

I stand by what I said earlier. To achieve progress you must eliminate barriers. The barriers are the fundamentalist Muslims and the heads of the Middle Eastern states, and they must be done away with.

To believe in an alternative to that solution seems fairly unrealistic to me.

Why aren't the Muslims calling for the heads of the people who published it? It has appeared in numerous papers across Europe. Not to mention one little detail you seemed to overlook...THE GOVERNMENT OF DENMARK HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CARTOONS OR THE PUBLISHING OF THEM, and yet those radical idiots insist and destroying the country. The links have some interesting points. However, the points you are emphasizing are only a few pieces of the puzzle. I'm not so much interested in "how?" Rather "why?" Language is a very powerful tool...but its only just that, a tool. You can never truly deprive anyone of this devise. Thats why I believe the only way to kill this weed is to go after the root. One needs to find both the motives and methods of the problem...so that they have the knowledge and ability to neutralize the true source of that problem.
 
the fact they can't make a diff between norway and denmark? the fact they're burning an embassy of someone who couldn't care less?
