Is upgrading from a Canon T2i to a 60D worth it?

is upgrading from a t2i to a 60D worth it?

i have a t2i and i use it all the time, i feel theres still more to learn from it but i feel i learn most of its capabilities.

i know the 60D is fairly similair but when i realized my lens is worth more then my camera there was a problem.

i just dont know if i should wait it out a wortk with my T2i for the rest of this year and when i goto college upgrade to the 60D.

To be honest the only real reasons to upgrade would be for the flippy screen for those low or high shots or the faster shooting speed. What lens(es) are you using?
 
why the fuck do you care if your lens is worth more than your body. the t2i is a work horse for video on the same level as a 7D. no that upgrade is not worth it at all
 
I knew someone would say that about the lens haha that doesn't really matter , it's a canon L 17-40 WA , I know the 7d and t2i video is similaor quality , but I do photos more then videos
 
Yeah it's not gonna be worth it, especially for video, spend it on something else. Also just out of interest why did you buy the 17-40 over a tamron 17-50? Tamron is cheaper, faster, wider zoom, and from what I hear the canon isn't sharper.
 
For me it would be totally worth it. You can probably still get some decent money for selling your t2i. Larger viewfinder and better ergonomics are a big plus.

But it depends what limits you in your t2i.

Lenses should always be more expensive than the body. You keep them much longer. They do 99% of the work.
 
I made the thread similar to this one :P....I say stick it out with the T2i and save up for something better than a 60D, the upgrade isn't really worth the money in the long run.
 
haha i know i shouldnt of put that in , thats a minor detail , i obvi know its better to have a nice lens it was early mb, that doesnt matter though, you guys think i should skip the upgrade, use the t2i one more yesr then this summer when i goto college get a 7D?
 
true that! ill do that thanks guys, and is buying a used camera a bad or good idea? i heard people getting dirty sesnors or something wrong with the focus , just dont want that to happen

And to your question: no, don't upgrade. I remember the photo's you posted a month or two ago and you still got a lot to learn.

That being said: if you want to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, get a second hand 5D

 
I wouldn't buy used. When I'm putting that kind amount of money into cameras I want to ensure I'm getting something that'll function perfectly and it is covered by a warranty when I purchase it in-store. I don't mind buying something open-boxed, but not used off some random stranger.
 
Depends on how much you can save IMO, I got my returned 550d for almost half the price of what the new ones were selling for, and that came with a 90 day warranty, although if I was buying a decent body it'd be a hard judgement
 
Or learn how to properly inspect a camera, also, if you buy used and the camera is less than like 3 years old it's still covered. Learn your shit man, I only buy used but I am super picky about who I buy FROM. I mostly buy from pro's who are upgrading or getting rid of back up lenses and bodies. That's how I can afford to shoot a 5d and L glass.

Also OP, first of all, your lenses should be worth more than your body, unless your shooting with a 1dX that is. And no don't upgrade, the insides are the exact same, the 60d is just a tiny bit bigger. Save your cash, and keep shooting. Upgrading from a t2i to a 60d will in no way help you achieve a better image, gear has like 1% to do with taking a good photo or video, it's 99% skill, so stop questioning the limitations of your gear and go shoot!

Doesn't matter what pro you buy from, used is used, end of story. With a camera, it has a certain amount of tolerance it will take before failing. If you plan to have a camera for a long enough time, buying something with a percent of the lifespan already taken off can be a mistake.

I'm with him, if you can justify the cost, buying new w/ warranty or close to it is best.
 
Fare enough, buying a new body is definitely a good idea if you can front the cash, but with things like lenses, I find it hard to justify spending the difference. One thing I have to say is that if your going to buy used, don't buy online if you can avoid it. Kijiji/Craig'sList are awesome because you can obviously hold and test the item before you pay. With ebay, you never really know what your getting. I've had great luck buying off kijijii, but as most of you know I recently bought a pentax 6x7 online and it showed up broken, kid just didn't know how to properly inspect a camera.

Sparknotes: Buy local. If you can buy your body new, if not buy from a pro or enthusiast. Buying used lenses, tripods, flashes, etc. is a great way to save money, and they don't have things like sensors that can crap out on your at any minute, they also generally don't cost as much, unless your buying L lenses.
 
Canon, Nikon, etc's warranty. I believe regardless of if you bought it second hand it's still covered as long as it hasn't passed the expiry date, but I might be wrong on that.
 
Buying lenses second hand is the best. Every retard can tell if it's scratched or not and if the scratches show up. I have never bought anything new for my photography gear except for my flashes and radio triggers. The rest is all second-hand and I've never had any problems.
 
lenses are definitely different, and usually BETTER to buy used. You know, via samples from that actual lens, how it will handle, and if there are any defects etc
