IS THIS THE FIRST DUB 5??

I'm pretty sure I remember someone mentioning (at WCS, when it happened) that someone (it might have been dean) did one previously. I was hoping another trick where he basically did an off axis in air pretzel dub was gonna be in it.
 
But he rotated at least 720 degrees, he did two flips.

In b4 everyone tells me I'm wrong. It's fucking science, a rodeo 5 is a flip and a 180, 360 degree flip plus 180 spin = 540 degrees of rotation. He does two flips, just because spins the opposite way he sets doesn't subtract a complete 180 degrees of rotation from the trick.

That being said, this trick is fucking sick and dean killed it so hard at wcs. I'm not entirely sure what to call this trick, but double flip 540 doesn't make any sense, at all.

you could say dub 7 revert but the problem is there was no revert.

If the first flip is a flat 3 and Edollo in this ESPN edit at 2:53 (http://xgames.espn.go.com/xgames/video/14643836/henrik-harlaut-back-2016 ) shows a rotation which looks very similar to Dean's second flip rotation, which many in the Dollo edit have said that it is a flat 180, then does that not Dean's double combination a double flat 5??
 
It looks like he is throwing a double rodeo/flatspin 720 but in the second flip he pretzels a 180. So I would definitely call that a dub 540 when Henrik can call his trick a rodeo/flat 180, like "thebusiness19" mentioned. A rodeo 360 isn't just a flip it has a 360 degree rotation in it so a rodeo 540 isn't just "a flip with 180 degrees spin"

Fuck everything you and I know. Fuck math, science, and logic. If you just watch the video doing the classic pause play pause play method you clearly see two flips and as he comes around for the 7 he does some wizardry to keep it at 5. I don't know how you could call it anything but a dub flat 5

fuck including the degrees flipped in the trick name. I'm always gonna call em by the number of degrees they spun on axis plus the number of flips they did. Like I would never call a double backflip with a 180 a dub 9.

If we actually named tricks the way he desrcibes, wouldn't a dub 10 actually be called a dub 18 because of 1080 degrees of rotation on axis plus the 720 degrees from going inverted twice?
 
I don't belive in dub5's beacuse it's not possible, BUT I agree that he did one.. I will go on with my life now, pretending this never happened.
 
Take a look at all three videos posted in this thread with this in your mind: they're all rightside underflips with reverse grabs. You will be amazed.

He does two flips and just spins the other way instead of following the natural rotation, bmos did some dubs like this a few years ago at WCS.

agreed. it took me a second watch to realize it but he's ""just"" doing a dub r9 but the 180 goes the other way than you'd expect

i used to do the single version of this on diving boards, basically doing a clockwise lincoln but spinning right instead of left which looks/feels weird

Well you aren't counting right tho. You have to consider that you inclined on the take off and declined on the landing... So technically a backflip isn't a 360 degree rotation but a 270-330 degree rotation.

This is what makes a flat 1 possible. If you pause a video of a flat 3 halfway, the person will be at about a 90 degree angle (skis pointing perpendicular away fromflat ground). However, that doesn't mean that the person needs to rotate 90 in a frontflip direction to land flat on their skis. The landing is at an angle so they are about 45-60 degrees from the landing.

The way a flat 1 is done is that you throw a really tweaked flat 3 but slower so that when you are about halfway through the flat 3 rotation, you kinda just drop your skis down 45 degrees or so to be flat with the landing. So it's like 180 degrees of a flat 3 rotation with an added 45 degrees of a switch-front-flip-like rotation to set your body upright on the landing.

So technically it's more of a 225-240 degree rotation but fuck you if that's what you are going to call it cause that's too specific and convoluted to be practical. Since you land switch and it involves straining and tweaking your body so you stop rotating to a 3 and rotate slightly fowards to land, we can call it a 180.

The flat 1 isn't a flatspin(360) + left/right rotation(180)=540.

It's more like .5 flatspin(180) + switch front flip(45-60)= between 225 and 240 degrees of rotation. And that rounds down to 180.

So if you do the very technical math you get flat 1 and in this case dub flat 5.

You're talking about a true flat spin, dean is doing inverts in his trick.

Also the rest of this you over thought way too much my dude. You can't do two flips and spin less than 720, its physically impossible.

I'm with eheath it's no a fuckin dub 5. If anything the right dub underflip makes the most sense. Regardless, it's a 900. It's basically a kangaroo flip with the 180 spinning the other way. Why don't you call a kang a dub 5?
 
Like 50% of people I've seen trying to learn double flat 900s has ended up doing this rotation the first time. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do it intentionally. Don't know why, it's a cool trick

Honestly aireals have way better naming of tricks, like a backflip with a full twist is just called a back full but here in freeskiing we call it a D-spin 720 even though its only one full twist not two.

When this got uploaded I got the same jibbersh about 'oh flip=360' 'underflip' and all that good stuff but a lot more people were either jus stoked to see it happen or were agreeing with the idea that this was the first flat 1 landed so obviously people are gonna chat the same breeze on this one.

It was steezy as hell and he made it look easy af too, so we should all be stoked that another progressive trick has been landed and were one step closer to the triple flat 540 ahaha

I feel like this kind of thinking is a boring and unnecessarily restricting. Obviously a literal double flip with only 540 degrees of rotation is impossible. However, I think that a trick in which someone does a double flip, lets say a left dub flat 7, and has a clear pretzel 180 could be considered a dub 5. That, unfortunately, is not exactly the case in this video, but I could also see the argument that Dean's flipping motion is that of a dub flat 7, and the pretzel 180 happens steadily throughout the trick, making this a dub 5.
 
Looks a flat 3(set to the left) to a underflip(5) (set to the right) = 900

I think this is just a really strange rotation that creates an illusion of sorts.
 
So here's my thinking on it. (in the other thread I thought he was referring to the dub flat at 5:00)

So he doesn't ever do a flat 3 or a flat 1 (which doesn't exist on this type of feature).

By the time he gets around to a 3 he's already in the second flip. So really it's a flat 270 to flat 270. Which I suppose could be called a flat 5.

I say flat, but really no one seems to know that a true flat spin you don't go inverted.

Definitely dub left side rodeo 5. But if you look at it hard/long enough it starts to look like a rightside double underflip 9 (or whatever you want to call that).

That said... Dub flat 5 !!!

You just subtract degrees because its a revert/change in axis.

I explained this earlier but you clearly didn't reach my post. A rodeo 5 is a 360 degree flip and a 180 degree rotation, thats why its a rodeo 540 and not rodeo 180.

It's just not possible to do two FLIPS and spin less than 720. True flat spins are a completely different story, but when you do two flips, IE deans rodeo 360 to opposite underflip 540 isnt a dub 5. If anything thing is a dub 9 revert or something like that, because he does a 900 just 360 one way and 540 the other way.

I wouldnt consider Dean's trick a dub rodeo but im not gonna argue the difference between the two. To me its a dub 5..idk. its fucked.
