Is this normal?

So i bought 10/11 armada ARV's last spring and i've skiied about 25days on them. After about 20 days, one of the edges cracked and another edge was kind of comnig out from the ski.

So i took em to be maintained at a skishop, they glued the "broken" edges and sharpened em up.

After 3 days of skiing, one of the edges (which wasnt even broken before), broke, and about 7" of the edge came right out of the ski.

So i started wondering if this is normal for armadas, or were these exact skis just a bad pair? Because im thinking never to buy armadas again....

Im in a pretty bad situation at the moment cause i bought them as an allmountain ski which i can ride park with, but now, as the edge is broken, the only thing they are good at is park.. And they are not the best park only ski out there, because of the weight and stiffness.

So what to do? Could they still try and fix them up at a shop, or are the skis gone?

Yep, i'd say like 15 out of the 20 days i skiied park.

That was the problem with the warranty too, as they said that if there are signs that the skiis have been abused (skiied on rails) the warranty would go off. And its been a year now since i bought the skis, so its pretty hard to prove how many days i have skiied on them..

well if u ski park, especially rails, theres gonna be big damage to ur edges no matter what, not trying to be a dick but its your own fault for ruining your edges, although it seems like they shouldnt crack, ive seen people on here have edge cracks after 2 days of riding park, if its a ski u want to keep in prime condition dont do rails

seriously, OP said the tech sharpened the skis. maybe op should have detuned them

Disagree. ARV has same edges, better base, and full sidewall. Either just a defect ski or lack of detuning sound like reasonable reasons. People should stop expecting their skis to be invincible. Obviously they shouldn't fall apart as soon as you click in, but people need to be realistic.

i dulled the edges completely underfoot at my hill, they have a machine for that.. How the hell u think i could ski rails with sharp edges anyway? And yes, i did it when i got the skis, and after they had been maintained.

So now im just wondering if all armadas have problems with the edge duration, or do i just ski rails too agressively?

Could someone point out a few good park only skis, with good pop and medium soft flex?

I've been thinking about the punx as ana option..

I have gotten edge cracks on every park ski I own in less than 15 days. And I detune. It's just what happens when you go hard in the paint. You don't need edges to hit rails anyways. shit will scissor just fine with the side of your base. FYI, when I snapped my Armadas there was only a little bit of edge left on the tip and tail everything else ripped out and that was after one season. Dont worry just yank that shit out and go shred.

if you want to hit rails get the AR7 or alpha. i was hitting rails every day for three seasons on my AR6's and i had no problem with the edge (apart from them being blunt as fuck). unfortunatly if you want to get on the rails and not kill your skis you have to buy there full on park ski. hope you manage to get a refund bro.

how much do you weigh, what type of stuff are you doing on rails, and for a ski maybe a Ar7 or t-hall?

This just isn't true as far as durability goes in the park. ARV, AR7, and the Alpha1 all have the 2.5 impact edges, and the only difference is the full sidewall in the ARV as oppossed to the AR50 semi-cap/sidewall construction in the others. The actual skiing will be different I agree but as far as durability I don't think people are using logic.

im about 170lbs and im looking for a poppy one so i can get creative. I prefer rails over jumps but i like both alot.

The only problem is now, that i dont have a ski to take with me to the alps, since im pretty much fucked on icy groomers with a broken edge if theres no powder around.

But thanks for the few decent answers anyway, might just have to save up money and try to get rid of these broken ones and buy a pair for park and a pair for the rest of the mountain, seems like trying to make one ski work for everything isnt a good idea afterall..

That's what it sounds like to me. I've had the same AR6s for five years and they are absolutely bombproof. No issues at all, other than they ski like wet noodles now.

i think you are right here, if you have the funds you could get something like the line chronics or Ar7's and then maybe like the JJ or bentchetler if you want an all mountain/powder ski.

My AR6's absolutely died after skiing on them the same amount of time you did. I had edge cracks everywhere, edges pulling out, a chunk of the wood core on top came out and exposed a whole section of my tail edge, major topsheet chipping and by the end of 30 days I had almost completely decambered them.

Needless to say, I met the Icelantic sales rep and he sold me on the brand. Bought a pair of Da'Nollies a bit later and can easily say that buying Icelantic skis was the best investment I've made in awhile.

The Da'Nollies a little bit more stiff at first, but once you break them in, they get super fun and playful, plus they have a titsload of pop. I would highly recommending trying out a pair if you can.

well i'd say you definitely have a problem. no park skier should complain that they have edge cracks underfoot if they ski any rails at all. I have about 6 or 7 or so in my k2 extremes that i have hit rails on for about 30 days? but you said you have 7 inches of edge totally pulled out? That being said i don't really know what you can do about it, warranty is probably not an option. i suppose you should just make the best of it with a bunch of edge gone.

I had a pair of 2nd gen AR5s back in the day. Within 1 day (after I detuned undefoot), I was missing over an inch of edge. A couple months later I was missing something like 60"+ of cumulative edge between both skis. I talked to a rep who said "you must have railed the shit out these." After I told him it started within the first couple of runs and the edge construction was fucking shitty, upon which he laughed and walked away. Dick.
