Is this normal for my edge?

I'm not completely new to rails, but this year I've been big into it. I've only skied about four days, but for those four days I did several hours of solely rails.

Anyway, I was just regularly inspecting my skis to see if there was any damage after a regular day, and I took a look at my dominant scissoring edge (inside left). The metal's pretty damn worn down [I know that it will wear down with time, obviously]... my old skis didn't look like this at all. I'm just not sure what to make of it, as a friend said it was "weird".

Anyway, if somebody could just tell me if this is normal edge damage or not after only a few days skiing... thanks.

I know it's hard to see exactly in the picture.. if you'd like another shot/angle let me know.

if you were scissoring hard that looks about right. i wouldnt worry about it maybe just change up your skis every once and a while to opposite feet to get more even wear.

yea thats pretty normal i mean your grinding on a piece of metal. My old skis were beat to shit on the edges from rails...don't really ski them anymore though

just remember to also dull the tips and tails, otherwise if you try and press, it'll grip more than you are used to, and it'll throw you off.

trust me and take a gummy stone or file and smooth out your tips and tails. you wont even notice it skiing, except on icy days, and you wont catch on gnarly rails as often.

Yeah I had to dull the edges a fair bit when I got them at first because they were super sharp. :P

Alright, thanks guys. I was just worried this was like way worse than they should be after only a few days.

not sure what those armadas are but my friend has the ar7s from 3 years ago and it looks like he had a similar problem. His edges were actually pushed up into the core of the skis, or the base was kind of dropping down. it was weird but whatever it is, its pretty normal for those skis. Its kinda sad because I had armadas last me 4 years and im pretty sure the quality is getting worse and worse but I feel the same for all companies. oh well what can you do

They're this year's Halos.

Hmm, yeah that sounds weird.

For mine, it looks like the edges have just taken a hell of a beating in like.. 4 days.. I was just surprised, haha.

Looks a lot like my edges and I jib a lot haha. Don't stress about it! It happens to the best of us. They will last a long time like that and if they get worse you can always bring them in to get them fixed for not too much.

well... laying in new pieces of edge is a bitch.

but really once your edges are nice and dull, they will wear slower. it's the first 50 rail hits that you really notice the abuse your skis take, then they will look the same for another 5000 rail hits (hopefully)

its like when you get new ski pants, and the first thing you do is accidentaly clamp the cuffs in the heelpiece of your bindings and make a tiny rip. it's inevitable, and really not a big deal, but it's noticeable and annoying.

Had this same thing happen a couple years ago (https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/583026/)

Didn't experience any significant problems. The edges on those skis are cracked in like 5 or 6 different places now, but no tear-outs (yet).

Somewhat of a thread-jack here, but anyway:

Finished my 4th day on my new Rossi Scimitars, and found an edge crack already. I detuned them, de-burred them every day, and switched skis every day I rode them. I don't think I have been gripping incredibly hard, and have only been hitting a few rails.

Anything I can do to keep from getting another edge crack? Anything I can do to prevent a tear out?

Same thing happened to my halos after about a week when i was hiking a mailbox rail. Ive skied on them all last season and a few days this season and they are fine all i recommend doing is filing down your edges so they are even, not all jagged like yours.

Semi thread jack, but it will help you as well. After about 6 days skiing with new skis I have 3 edge cracks on one ski and 1 on the other. Is this normal? My hill is probably 85% rails and 15% jumps. I hit all of the rails every run pretty well.
