Is this illegal?

I'll keep this as brief as possible. I've been living in an apartment complex with 3 other apartments in the same building for about 6 months. We've never had any problems with any of our neighbors. The kids next to us beat away on their drum set for hours at a time, and the kids above of us blast their dubwomp at full blast all day. Not once have I ever banged on a wall, asked them to keep it down, or called in a noise complaint.

Fast forward to about a week ago. Right around 10:30 pm all the power on my half of the apartment goes off when we're partyin with a few heads at our place. (all the apartments used to be two separate ones, but the owner knocked down the connecting walls in the kitchen so instead of 8 apartments there's 4 with symmetrical sides if that makes sense). At first we thought we'd blown the circuit breaker and just called our property management company to have them send an electrician. Turns out the problem was the switch to our circuit breaker had been turned off outside behind our complex. Only ours...

Now last night around 12:00 am same shit happens. All the power on our half goes off. The other half of my apartment has lights still. First thing I do is check the switch behind the apartment complex, of course only our's is off. I started yelling about how whatever pussy that keeps turning out shit off needs to come forward and just knock on our door. I don't know if it was pure chance, but when I got back to my door, there's one of my upstairs neighbor standing there.

"Hey I'm neighbor A, I'm studying for physics and was wondering if you could keep the music down?"

You mean the music that hadn't been playing for about 10 min while we sorted the circuit breaker shit out? I asked him if he knew anything about the switch (it seemed sketchy that he was complaining about noise that had ended 10 min before...) , and he said it happens to them all the time when they start to blast their music. BULLSHIT. Their shit is constantly bumping.

This little twat has been turning our circuit breaker off before coming to our door to ask us to keep it down. That's fucked up. Especially with the noise they make as well.

So NS is it illegal for them to turn the direct source of power to my apartment off without being a licensed electrician?

SPARKNOTES: My upstairs neighbors turn our circuit breaker off on the outside of the apartment whenever we get noisy. BEFORE asking us to turn our shit down...

You are a fucking idiot.

I dont know if it would be considered illegal but would certainly be an issue that you could take up with your landlord or just get a house.

There's a lock on it now, I bought one this morning. Thanks for the advise.

By all means I understand my neighbors, but you don't go turning my power off to solve the problem.

My point is valid because what I read from sparknotes dude can't shut your power off if he doesn't own it. It might not be jail time but I'm sure you could get the police to tell him to stop

Make everything really loud but get someone to hide outside and wait. When they go to turn it off beat the shit out of them and kill them... or throw snowballs or something

It could be breaking and entering/ tampering/ or vandalism. Even though you did put a lock on it. I would still bring it up to your land lord of the apartment complex.

borrow a friends wild life camera thing.. like, takes pictures when it senses motion type of thing..

then bring the photos to the po-po

This would be your best bet to find out who it is, I wouldn't commence in physical violence though because of this guy is to much of a pussy to come to your door then he might file abuse charges.

well it is 12am. try being courteous.

i'm sure they have a noise law or some policy in your tenant agreement about sound.

I'm pretty sure its illegal. but like others have said get photographic evidence. get someone to hide outside with a camera and when their caught red handed take several photos. wouldn't go with the wildlife thing seems like if the persons gonna break one law their gonna go ahead and steal the camera. so I suggest someone hide with a camera that way there's no chance of getting your shit jacked. then go to said neighbor and be like if my power goes out again and only my power I'm bringing the incriminating photos to the proper authorities. make it seem more like you're not really a dick but if their gonna continue to be an asshole you can be.

That should solve the problem your having.

be more direct. i would be fucking pissed. do some revenge thingy, like turn of his switch, or knock on their door every time they play shitty music. (good music also, as long as it bothers you)

The lock I put on this morning should solve the problem. I'm not really looking for revenge, it'll only makes matters worse imo, because in their defense these incidents have been on a Thursday night and a Wednesday, and I know they all go to school. I'm just bummed they can't come down and knock..

Thanks for the suggestions though guys they're greatly appreciated.

pretty sure he won't get jail time or a fine but will be warned not to do it again if you call the fuzz but I'm sure it's ilegal to turn off the power since it's not his.

if you have anything to do with computers you can probably threaten him with police since pulling the power cable to a computer is bad for the hard drive, if done enough can cause damage and corrupt files. I am sure there is some level of shit he could get in for that.

The beauty of a well planned out schedule my friend.

I don't really want to call the police, cause that's just shitty regardless of what he did. Like I said, it's my fault we were loud. He could have just come downstairs and knocked on my door is all. I didn't even get a ceiling stomp (WTF?). I was just curious as to whether or not he can just do that cause he's pissed, given he didn't approach me first.

He's lucky we have surge strips to the thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment in our place. Between me and my roommates guitars, amps, stereo system, tvs, and computers he could have seriously fucked our shit up by just killing the power to our place.

Turn it off again.. I dare you.

Lock the breaker, inform your landlord in writing making it clear you will not accept him tolerating it and request politely he issue a property memo informing people not to do it. If it happens again sprint and find out who did it, if your really smart don't confront them until you've figure out their unit # or what car they drive (landlords keep records of all tenants plate # ). Then you have something to work with. Obviously keep a copy of your letter and send it certified mail and keep the reciept

build one of those traps used by the Vietcong were they sharpened and cut short all the branches of a tree then tied it up in the trees and rigged it so it would swing down and rape bitches after a wire was tripped. Only make it out of a cluster of moist dildos.

its 100% illegal. what if you have something that is for your health that you need to keep on such as one of those things to help you breathe at night if you had sleep apnea. they could cause serious health risks to someone by turning their power off without notifying the person first.

I have a noise problem with my neighbours and shit too I doubt they would go as far as turning out the power but if you even move a chair differently they,ll bang on there roof.

this reminds me of back when i delivered pizzas if you stiffed me on a tip or shorted me i would come back to your apt later and cut the cable line where it comes in your house.
