Last night i put my unopened 1g iPod nano on ebay for $50. today i got an email where this guy is offering me $126 for it. this is what the email read...

Hello seller,

I just went through your listing and i see it match my search so i will

like to make an immediate purchase of this item to my store into meet

up with Quick Demand of it, so i will offer you the sum $126.00 for

the item including the shipping cost of the item and i will be paying

you with a certified PayPal

so i will like you to get back to me with your paypal payment address

or you send me a money request to make the payment in time.

And i will like you to get the auction ended.

does this seem legit? i mean what risk do i take giving this guy my paypal address?

you run no risk giving him your paypal address, your paypal address is what he needs to send money to you, he cant do anything with it, its just your email

yo im not sure, i feel SOO skeptical on ebay, i feel like no matter what im gonna get ripped off, i just made an account last week and i wanna buy this jacket, but i feel like im gonna get scammed somehow

have you ever heard of the member battlefieldgolf? he has like 99.8% good feedback which seems like hes got too much? do you know if that guy is legit

but yeah, that guy definately seems foreign or something....not so sure about that, but i mean isnt pay pal pretty safe?

sounds like such bullshit!! hes insanely vague, he could send the exact same message to hundreds of people ( he probably did ) and some would buy into it.... just so you dont miss a chance at making that much money though, you should look him up somehow to see if hes legit or send him an e mail to see if hes even a living human being.

wait i got a question. How does pay pal work?...

so you give pay pal your debit/credit card number, and you use pay pal to buy stuff, but what keeps the other person from collecting your money and not sending you your shit? can someone explain how paypal works?

haha its so funny hearing people being so confused about paypal since im so used to using it. Paypal acts as an online bank, so say i bought a jacket off you on newschoolers, i would give you my paypal name (which is p3rma@yahoo.com, same as my email). then you go to paypal, go to send money, type in the ammount and type in my email as the recipient. easy as that. me giving you my paypal does not put me in danger at all, it would be like me giving you my email address

i literally just got another email like a second ago and this guy is offering my $150. does all this seem legit?

Hello, Will you sell this item to me for the sum of US $150.00 this

also covers the postage & insurance charges for delivery

abroad.Payment would be effected upon your response as i would want you

to send me a PayPal Payment Request to my email address *****@yahoo.com or probably reply with your PayPal account email

address if you are interested in selling this to me. I am serious with

this as i promise not let you down with the purchase of the item if you

can give this offer a consideration.Your prompt response would be

highly appreciated.

DAMN SOUNDS LIKE THAT IPOD IS A HOTTTTT ITEM

alright thanks for explaining pay pal, but what keeps people from not getting your money and not sending you anything, it seems like that would happen all the time on ebay? is it just trust? thats what im so skeptical about on ebay.

always be skeptical of shipments over seas. check into his feedback. look to see what items he has sold or bought and the dollar amount of those items. ive seen people put up a whole bunch of items for $.01 and then buy them with another bogus account just to jack up their feedback. when they do this it looks like they're a legit seller when in all reality they're out to scam.

the danger you have with sending this to him overseas is he can file a claim with paypal stating that he never got your item, etc. and then get his money refunded. he also sounds like he is trying to complete the transaction on a private level as opposed to doing the bidding through ebay - this is not a good idea for you. this dude sounds bogus to me bro. id ignore his emails.

don't fucking do it you dumb-ass.. there are soooo many warnings on paypal AND ebay that say specifically not to respond to the offers to end an item early via a NON-ebay method. if he wants 150 for it, tell him to just fucking bid 150 for it. he is no way legit, and i say all this because i've been ripped for $610 through ebay before- and i did it THROUGH ebay. if you do it the way the dude wants, you will not be protected in any way shape or form.

Well with paypal, he has to pay first before you can ship it to him, because that's how you get his address and print out shipping slips. It sounds like you could either make 75 more than you wanted, or you would just relist it if the guy doesn't pay. Remember though, HE HAS TO PAY FIRST!!!

dont send him your email! this is a scam, as a former ebayer I can tell you that this guy is trying to hack your account. Never ship anything overseas.

come on its one of those weird grammar, run on sentence bullshit. watch out. just let people bid, because you'll get those messages all the time when selling high demand goods.

Yea it does seem like a scam cause the guy claims that he is from overseas...my question tho is how could i get screwed? say he did send me $150 through paypal and then i sent him the ipod, how could i get screwed? i know shipping would cost a lot, that's why i'm not fucking with this guy. but besides the high shipping cost, how could he screw me? i'm just wondering....i'm def staying away from this guy

this was his response to my email

Thanks for your mail...Please i need this item urgently for my Client in West Africa

well one, they wont actually use paypal. they will most likely treat it as some sort of escrow, e.g. the funds will be released upon delivery, etc, using a fake but seemingly similar "paypal"

it obviously doesn't sucker too many people by the end, but enough do to keep this shit going.

anything with africa, possibly UK, run on sentences, copy/paste tendencies, urgency (unless is legit, bb), weird ass phrasing, just don't even entertain it.

Havent you seen the Chris Hanson Dateline special about internet scams....he said never deal with anyone from Nigeria its always a scram or a stolen credit card
