Is there a secret to being good at skiing?

Although I'm not a good skier, I've noticed the days I look more stylish and steezy (i.e new jackets pants whatever) I tend to be a better skier, because I have to live up to what I look like. Looking like a baller will give you confidence.

^^ true, dont be a pussy, just dare to throw everything down,
and now my personal addition: I'v also experienced that the best riders are usually the most motivated to progress, they are the guys that bite into one trick to perfect it, no matter how often they need to try...

you have to want it bad, and never to forget to have fun,,,after that it comes by its, as long as you have fun and stay relaxed you dont even stress how good you are compared to others,,,,,cause your having so much fun you dont care,

It's definitely not the mtn where you ski... I mean look at Tom Wallisch or the entire traveling circus crew... they all grew up at little mtns. If you wanna get really good fast then you should go to camp. But if you don't have the money/ time to do that then go to the mtn. as often as you can. talk to them about making a better park. watch tons of ski vids. don't get discouraged by ppl who are better and just started. Then check what it is that you're trying to do. if you're trying to get good at jumps but your hill only has one 10ft kicker then you might have to go somewhere else maybe try rails. change you look not everyone has to be/ can be steezy like 4bi9. But most importantly just have fun. if you have a good time and a good attitude and work hard you'll get better and probably not even notice it.

holy shit.. this great advice! 10/10

everything he says is true. especially when he says not to skip something you think you might be able to do. like if you look at a rail and think "yah i could probably do it" then DO IT dont just put it off and ride by. As soon as i sacked up and started actually hitting stuff i progressed so much faster, and its true if you fall you fall but just get up grit your teeth and try it again.

man you just gotta try shit and work for it. i see tons of kids with potential that hold themselves back becuase they are too scared to try new shit or dont want to ski if its snowing out.

A lot of people say be hardcore, try as hard as you can, be as fired up as possible, etc. But really, I find that when I'm feeling chill, focused and confident the tricks come really easy. They just feel better to do when the body is relaxed a little bit more. Like you don't want to be all tense. A deep breath before trying something, then just thinking of how dope it is to be riding, makes whatever I do just so much less intimidating and I usually stick it then.
Also, don't let it get you down. If you're having fun, all happy and stuff, then it's just the best time ever. Tricks will be stomped and if not it doesn't matter, you're having fun. You'll get it if you keep trying it, but don't let it take away from the fun if you can.
As for tall tees and baggy stuff, I honestly ride better with tall tees or baggy shit. The confidence is up there so high, like you're channeling energy from the steeze gods or something. Plus it's fun to know that everyone thinks you look like a retard and not give a fuck.
I absolutely suck for the amount of time I get to ski, and where I ski. For a couple seasons I'd always be bummed because I knew I was worse than everyone, but recently I just decided it doesn't matter. I'll progress at my own pace, not be pressured or whatever, and that makes it less intimidating trying new stuff too. Then I progress faster. Learn tricks because it's fun, because the feeling is awesome, not because it gets you respect, or it makes you more of a "legit skier" to be able to do bigger tricks.

Just go as often as you possibly can, practice makes perfect. and if your feeling a new trick, try it.

And the whole.... dont give a fuck about getting hurt thing would really help, but that takes a nutsack.

Be short

I mean Simon dumont is like 5'3, and sounds like a Alvin and the chipmunks CD played at double speed

yet he slays hard

I definitely find it helps to be filmed. You really get motivated and want to do the sickest shit because you know its going to be on video.
Helmet cam, here I come.

this, the last really good trick learning day i had is when me and a few friends were playing ski s-k-a-t-e on like a 12 foot box but without the s-k-a-t-e part, and it was just really chill and we all ended up trying new things we didnt think we would/could land to get the other people to try them too, and when we found something we all really liked trying and were ok at, we all kept going for it until all of us had landed it at least once or twice. super chill, no pressure, good times

its bullsht when people say, practice makes perfect. thats not true in its obvious form, what it really does mean is that practice will refine your skills however....perfect practice makes perfect. do the trick technically sound. Dont just flail around hoping to land. Back when i played college football if i practiced with shitty form all day long in my drop backs and throws at the end of the day i was no better than when i started. BUT when i did it perfectly with good form and pushed myself even if i was tired etc those are the days that I really suceed. Practice good form, air awareness, its good to sack up and huck it however try and refine your technique everytime you ride.

anyone who is good at skiing has sent me 50 bucks. if you wanna b good, send me 50 bucks. thats the secret

i think theres a secret handshake between really good skiers and once you execute it perfectly then you get instant skillz, or it could be not caring what happens to your body and commiting like indiana jones, if he hadnt of commited to that jungle vine swing into the back of the jeep he'd have bailed and eaten it,
there is no secret

practice is a big part yes, but committing and following through with all of your tricks will take you a long way... oh and windells new bag jump will allow you to learn pretty much any flip you desire. As well as waterramps and tramping and such

MUSTLE MIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLKKKKKK!!!!

the only reason Im good at skiing is because i try to be better with the friends I ski with.. if they do something i say well if they do that than i can so i try it. just trying new stuff

master all the really easy basic stuff first and stomp them perfectly so that you can do it every time and then move on to the next level. some kids just understand how to move their body on skis a little better at first and thats why they can do stuff pretty early just keep skiing and figure out what works for you best.

when sacking up and trying a new trick just think about doing it perfectly to your feet down the entire inrun. don't let any thoughts of crashing or pussying out come into your head.

and if you are really secondguessing yourself on the inrun its sometimes better not to try it

Well, as everyone else said, skiing with friends is the absolute best way to learn stuff. They push you, and you will try things outside your comfort zone, which is a good thing. I personally do not progress much unless I ski with friends.

agreed, i personally find that if i injure my self doing a trick or fall hard on a feature, i will not be satisfied until i can stomp that trick or hit that feature without falling.

the secret to being good at park is skiing everyday and constantly learning new shit (practice). it really helps to live in a good place too (like whistler) where you aren't held back by the features (because there perfect and big enough to do anything you want). I say this because i did a season at whistler and i progressed beyond belief and then moved back here (ottawa) where i ski at tremblant and can't even do any of the tricks i learned in whistler because the features simply arent good enough here.

I like having a combination of being chill, yet super stoked. i hate it when i get so chill, that I'm just like whatever, I need a little fire in me.

Have tons of fun, and don't beat yourself up if you don't get a trick, just say to yourself, I'll get it soon. Also, set strict goals, long term and short term. For example, long term goal for me is get a cork this season. My short term goals have been like this: I'm not goin in for lunch until I stomp a 5. DO NOT give in, don't be like: man, I'll never get and I'm just gonna get hungry. Be like: Ok, let's get this cus I'm hungry and wanna eat, don't be a pussy let's go. Another thing I do, is I don't call last run, but I'll say like, I'm gonna call it quits after I stomp this trick. That's how I learned my first 7. Me and my bro were skiing, and I was like, I'm gonna stop when I get a 7. We both got one, one after the other.

inspiring, and so true.

"extreme sports are not just a lifestyle, but a state of mind." my new sig thank you!

Number 1 tip for skiing is ski with confidence. Having confidence means you commit to your tricks, and your that much more likely to stomp them.

there actually is a reason why pros are pros, and why some people pick it up in no time.. they have a hilghy integrated cerebellum, which is the rear part of your brain. it doesnt cause or initiate any movements, but it controls the cordination and precision of the movements. im not going to go into details..

most people are just not phyisacally capable of the things pros are doing. like when you hear people say "he just seems to always know where he is in the air", "he always lands on his feet", or "his air awareness is amazing," they are actually 100% correct and they have an ability that a lot of us dont.
