Is there a secret to being good at skiing?

everybody can learn how to jump and have air awareness you just have to ski a lot and hit a lot of jumps and go tramping a lot and you should be fine. it just takes a while to understand how it all happens.

this is just making excuses though. how are you supposed to know if your cerebellum is highly integrated. do you think that everyone who can do switch double cork 10's has a highly integrated cerebellum? cause i dont.

start youngi started gymnastics when i was about six and i've been doing super high coordination sports ever sincenow i can pick most things up really quickly

DON BE GIVINIT AWAY BRUDDA SAVE DA FOR DA REEEAL SKIYAZ.
on a serious note, heres the secret recipe for success
athleticism+big balls+perserverance+pain tolerance=Pro Skier

There are 2 secrets to being good at skiing:
Go out every day with the intention of having fun as your number 1 priority.
Go out every day and try to scare yourself.

Buy all the nicest gear possible, the higher the price tag the higher number of rotations your going to be able to do

really though just get out there and try new shit everyday... try to work around the shiitty park and be creative and also try to do something new every day... ski with people that are better than you and just spin, bonk and jib shit on the sides of all the runs

ok call me a nerd or whatever, but one of my professors once modeled success at school as a very simple math equation:

success = hard work + natural talent

so basically what some may lack in talent, they have to make up with hard work and vice versa. so I like to think of pros as the type of people who have tons of talent AND throw in a good amount of hard work. now I know extreme sports are a little different than academic success, but I think it runs along the same lines if you account for "balls" in hard work. so what I'm trying to say is if it seems like other people are much more talented than you, you're just going to have to work that much harder to be just as successful as them. I know it may suck being less talented, but that's the way you were born and there's nothing you can do about it except for compensate for it with hard work!

yeah, practice is deff the only way to really heighten you abilities. I've tought ski lessons for the last three and a half years so i never really had time to just work on the things really wanted to work on, so this year i decided to stop teaching and just go riding every day. ive skied over seventy days this season already and i know ive never skied this good in my life before. practice makes perfect

just buy an xl saga or jiberish... ditch the north face. you'll make friends and become way better at skiing without even trying

wow i made this thread so long ago, i cant believe how far its got. a ton of good advice has came out of it

truth. it seems like something is much more scary until you try it then even if you fall your like 'Oh, that wasnt so bad', pick up your skis, and do it again.

^ True

the only way to get better at skiing is to buy full tilts, 6xl (or larger) outerwear, line afterbangs, crowbars and a skullcandy bandana around you neck

man... i gotta say, ther's some really good shit in this thread.

When i fractured my collarbone I spent my recovery time skiing switch EVERYWHERE, and skied a lot of bumps after 3 weeks. All this really helped my park skiing with balance, stance, and switch 3's.

thats some inspirational stuff right there.. i suck and man does that make so much sense... im going on wed next week with no lift lines so ill get maximum practice and ill do a trick on every feature im about to hit... except early i need to find the speed for each jump =)

Haha yeah I told the guy I was seeing last year to tell me to "stop being a bitch" or something like "youre being a fucking pussy just do it" if I was too scared.

And honestly, every time he said that in a serious voice, I would straight up send it, and most of the time it works out for the best.

Having a good mixture of supportive friends and competitive friends to take you down a few notches does wonders. Also, skiing as much as possible... I went up 65 times last season... even took a semester off, and I am 4 times better at snowboarding than I was at the beginning of the season

The taller the tee, the better you are....Jk

haha this. and acrobatic coordinative skills are hereditary, so you can't get all that much better by practicing.

seriously though, if you ski with people that are better than you, it can be frustrating not being able to keep up, but well worth it when you learn a new trick every week because you tried to.

There is no secret to anything in life:

The world is truly your with persistence and dedication to the maximum. That is what every athlete, celebrity, CEO, anyone successful has realized is to never give up. Never let fear control you because if your scared of failing in front of others that is a roadblock. Don't be scared to fail because everyone has to fail to be succesful. You to be good you first have to suck
