Is Skiing Popular?

In my school (highschool) we have a fair amount of skiers, but its not popular at all. There are kids thats are real well known that ski and kids that are unknown that ski, but it really doesn't matter on the mountain, cause its all about if you can throw down or shred pow or have a good time with friends. Some times before the weekend when i go up to my condo at the mountain i think about all the shit im missing out on regarding to hanging out with my friends and shit because im skiing. Its impossible for me to have a relationship with a girl during winter and some times i feel like i'd rather have a social life on weekends. But as soon as I get to the mountain i forget that shit and its definately worth it. Any ones school like this?
 
i try not to talk about skiing with my gaper friends because it just pisses me off haha.
 
im almost the same way. but my hill is 20 minutes away so im not that way at all. i love skiing and if i could choose skiing or social life i would definatly pick skiing. specially if my hill or mt was amazing and the park was insanly nice.
 
There is only one other freeskier at my school. I ride with snowboarders 98% of the time, and they all have complete respect for skiers, but the gapers at school are always trying to argue with me about which sport is "better," which is retarded.
 
no one understands how hard skiing is, or how much balls it takes. and i get made fun of for wearing G size clothes :(
 
same here people always make fun of me cause all i talk about and think about is skiing. Only about 4 other people are freeskiers with a few guys who occasionally ski
 
my school has pretty much a "posse" of skiers, i dont know if thats the right word, but when we talk about skiing, either no one understands what were talkin about, or if someone tries to butt into the talk, we just laugh at their sad attempt
 


agreed all of the kids at my school are either gaper boarders or they suck at skiing every one thinks snow boarding is the #*%& it is really anoying
 
same here
i dont really care that i dont have a social life on the weekend because it doesnt matter when you are skiing
you have the off season to do that
you can always hang out but you cant always ski
 
no, theres a group of snowboarders takes one trip to keystone and they think there the shit. One said he was spancerized by oakley and brought in a googles to proved it, (O frames ) and i just hung my head started to laugh and walked away
 
I'm the same dude. I have a couple of my friends who ski or board and thy're not gapers or anything, but they're just not as into it as I am. I mean I tried to talk to my one skier friends about some of the slopestyle runs on the xgames and he just didn't get it and didn't know who any of them were besides tanner and dumont. It really sucks because I'd like to have someone to talk to about skiing like we do on here, but it just doesn't happen. PLus, everyone at my school is still stuck on the idea that snowboarding is so much cooler. I almost feel stupid sometimes when I tell people that I ski because I can tell that they're just thinking of skiing like old people who just carve. They have no idea what twin tips are or what freeskiing is all about. It's really frustrating.
 
3 of my friends and i all started skiing together at my school so we have lke a small posse...but after talkin abuot it all the time ppl started getting interested..and after showing podcasts and shit to all my non skier firends they all want to start...so in a few years my posse will be BIG
 
Well im so damn cool, i can do whatever i want and everyone thinks its cool, but they dont try it cause they know they would fail. And i dont need to hang out with people but my ski and snowboard buddies cause i party all week and smoke ery day. Cause im the shit
 
i totally know what you mean a girl in my school is doing an article on skiing for the newspaper and she wants me and some of my friends to take pictures and its hilarious because we look completely different on the mountain then off the mountain, like completely different styles and everyones like....wtf? you look like a baller
 
I have one other person in my whole school who "free" skis. The rest are either snowboarders or gapers. All the snowboarders just make fun of me because skiing is so gay and snowboarding is so much cooler, but yet they don't know what a cork 7 is, or a rodeo, or a misty, bio, you get the hint. They just talk shit and it irritates me but whatever, if they came with my friend and I once, we probably wouldn't hear anything from them ever again.
 
i find it really hard to talk to my good friends, who are total gapers, about stuff. I've come to avoid it completely and just do my own thing and quietly be obsessed and the escape on the weekends to go skiing.
 
yeah there are some kids in my school that i don't really hang out with because they aren't in my group of friends but the minute i get on the mountain and meet up with them, plus see the group of friends i have that hang out on weekends from mass and stuff its like i have a whole different crew
 
I go to a school with only about 10 kids that actually really know about skiing. The rest either think they know a lot about skiing or are gapers and say skiings gay go snowboard. and I go to school in Denver, you'd think there would be more but theres not.
 
Theres 4 kids on NS in my school counting me. But theres a big group of us from my school , some skiiers , some boarders who are at my mtn every weekend ( its only 10 mins away ) . Not everyone is the same age but on the mtn it doesnt matter everyone just gets along and chills.
 
when i first started when i was a freshman (senior now) it wasnt cool, but now people respect me and my friends who go, and actually understand that its an action sport.

so yes, skiing is cool, but not 'popular'

 
the only people who can hit anything in the park are me and my one friend who snowboards, the rest of my school is garbage on groomers. hahah
 
yeah same here

like i have a friend that's into skiing but he si more a gaper and likes to just carve the groomes and he bitches about me cause i like pipe and park. so it sucks like most of the kids in my school are like yeahhh snowboarding ftw but it's cause they just have that mind that snowboarding is "in" right now.

I love skiing so much that i ditch everything to go out and ski. i kinda feel that im throwing my life away by quiting swimming with i was amazing at (not trying to breg) but i quit cause i couldn't ski as much as i want. and i've stopped talking to friends because im to busy skiing and stuff. and it seems when you can't ski noone can do anything. it's hard to but if you don;t have night skiing take advantage of that. i mean you really have to take advantage of what you can get in the winter with your social life. i mean teach a girl you like to ski or snowboardand do a few runs trying to teach her then take her to the park or pipe and show her your amazing skills. just think she might be so impressed you'll get something more outta it ;) but like i said all i do is take advantage of like chilling with friends. like if your body feels sore just go out and chill with people don't push your body harder. theres tons of ways to get around this to.

My school has a pretty dent amount of freeskiers but we don't really talk much cause in school there all like the guys that think there so cool and stuff. i just try to keep skiing to myself now.
 
yea my hills 20 minutes away and maybe 10 out of 1000 kids at my shcool ski, atleast well and in park, maybe 200 board or attempt its rediclous but then again its freakn ohio
 
I remember a back a couple years, and trying to explain freeskiing to a co-worker...she thought it was just skiing without poles..that was the last time i have tried to incorporate skiing into someone totally oblivious...but at hs there was only 1 other freeskier which was sad.
 
same. Most the kids at my school snowboard, and when I tell them I ski they are like "dude skiing is gay, you should snowboard." Their gaperness pisses me off sooo much, especially when they think snowboarding is soo much better than skiing.
 
worrddd. exactly the same here. im like the only one thats actually seriously into freeskiing in my school. theres one other guy, but hes a racer and thinks hes god, so yeah hes a tool and i just ignore his ass. even the guys i ride with, they like skiing, they go into the park, but they're bad compared to me (and i cant even throw a 1). maybe thats why i havnt progressed :(

but your dead on when you said that people think skiing is like old people style, just carving. everybody thinks that, and its kinda bad for the sport, ya know
 
we have some fucking insane ski racers.
and a snowboarder that went to torino to train with the olympic team.

and skiing is kindaa popular, theyres like 5-ish freeskiers, and maybe 30 or so kids that ski, more like gapers/ weekend warriors though.
for some reason i ton of kids think im crazy good haha. im not sure why though.
 
wait until you get to college. I've met so many legit skiers that throwdown (30+) the people who aren't serious about it filter out through the years.
 
I find that more of the less popular (not total loner) kids including myself end up being really sick skiers. I have tons of friends and stuff but I never consider myself "popular", it seems all the kids i know that throwdown are the same way., skiers and boarders. The "cool" kids all suck at snowboarding but thats cool right.

I also notcie the skiers/boarders have a different style and dont reallyl care what people think, like even the way they dress and shit and this is starting to sound gay so im gonna call no homo and stop.
 
my college has a ski race team with some kids who are stupidly insane at raceing. one other kid on the team freeskis with me. but we we end up doing a race or 2 on the weekends just for the hell of it. and we get free red bull. but everybody from a few schools get together at a garbage ass motel every weekend and get hammered. and a lot of the girls that race are pretty damn good looking too.
 
Haha exactly, every time i wear my jiberish to school or out when im not skiing I always get a comment like sweet sweatshirt, but it doesnt bother me cause I love my jiberish.
 
there are a good amount of skiers at my school. 3 that are on here including my self. but im the only one that really skis any park(or the only one who is any good at it).
 
There are lots of skiers at my school. Although, only two are actually legit non-gapers. Its fun though cuz they're all stoked on skiing. But its really funny though because in the last months all, and i mean all of them got public enemies. I told them i was getting line invaders because i broke my old skis and they were all like "What are line". I saw a post a while back about how Public Enemies are a gapers weapon of choice. They truly are.
But who cares that much when your chillin on the mountain. I've skied with some of them and they're fun to ski with. I've also made attempts at teaching them to do rails. The classic slip out would ensue on a massive butter box but they are chill and get right up and try again

I am the only park skier at my school, the rest are gapers or snowboarders who are douches and still hate on skiing. But i've met kids at my local mountains that ski park that i ski with everytime i go so its all good. Some of my friends actually think skiing is dope but none of them try it.
 
Ahahaha, thats what happened to me, I'm in grade 11 and nobody skis anymore lol. I have to go skiing with kids in like grade 9 because everyone just gives up to go get drunk all weekend lol.
 
i was on a "ski club" trip with the local highschool and i would be talking to people, (in my sagged sessions pants and big hoodie) and they would notice my ski boots and say "wait. you ski? look at you all dressed up like a snow boarder!!"

i promptly threw a backflip and that shut the haters.
