Is skiing hard to pick up?

Well I tried snowboarding a while back and its harder in the beginning but easier to master, skiing is easy to pick up but don't expect to be dub corkin' it up the first week

i started off skiing and love skiing but tried snowboarding for a little and came to this conclusionskiing is easier to start but harder to mastersnowboarding the opposite harder to start but once you get it its easier to master.

this kid at my mountain switched over from snowboarding at the end of last year and he kills it now

Some of the skills are suuuuper transferrable - like if you understand snowboarding, understand spinning and stuff it helps a lot with skiing. But moguls will plague you for years.

I highly suggest joining a team or taking some lessons and practising what you learn a ton. Moguls are a lot of fun when you can ski them well, but it takes serious work before you get good at them. And if you want to go shred lines, moguls will help you a TON for skiing all over the mountain.

Agree I started snowboarding in like 3 grade cause I though it was cooler hah but then I switched to skiing and like it way more

if you already snowboard, then it shouldnt be to bad. the worst part about skiing with someone just learning how to ski (having never snowboarded either) is that they will be afraid to turn or pick up speed. if you have balls and balance you will be good!

if you have already been snowboarding you have the balance, athleticism, movements and strength that you need to ski. The learning curve for skiing is usually opposite to that of snowboarding which means you will be able to get down the hill with ease fairly quickly.

Speaking as one who does both fairly frequently, I find that I tend to ski like a snowboarder (which is better than snowboarding like a skier), so dont feel bad if you look like an idiot skiing with a wide stance.

I grew up snowboarding but my family is to broke to keep buying me new shit and everyone ski's so i get everything for free skiing. I switched to skiing and it was pretty easy. I found it more fun, there is a lot more to do on skis then snowboards!

I snowboarded for a good 5 years... swtiched to skiing, wasnt bad at all. And it was a whole lot more fun to learn than snowboarding. deffinetly switcPr

thanks everyone! my next quick question is I'm about 5'9". you think 180cm skis are good for me? or should I do longer or shorter, what do you think?

thanks for all the help

It depends whether or not you're still growing. Since you're just starting though, I'd recommend something closer to a 175 so you'll have more control over your skis. It also depends on what kind of skiing you'd like to do and how much you weigh. You might also want to make a thread in Gear Talk. Make sure to include your height, weight, age, skiing ability, what you are looking to ski on (park, all mountain, powder, etc.), and I'd suggest including whether or not you're still growing. I hope this helps and I hope that you enjoy skiing.

no it is not, i switched a month a go, and im SO much farther than the goals i had, pretty much its all in you and how much you try and forget about thinking of falling, If you just try everything it gets eaiser, trust me
