Is Skiing A Dying Sport?

Seriously after triples what can you do? is it just going to die out and not be able to progress? Ya you can always work on style but its hard to control a spin when your doing 3 flips and crazy ass spins. I just cant see where people are gonna go after triples. If the jumps get too big too then so many people are going to die and get hurt.
Whats your guys opinion?

it'll plateau and then style will become more important like it kinda has with rollerblading except rollerblading actually is dead........ :(

No. Style and Creativity is about to blow up after triple flips get huge. Rail game is also gonna start to become way more important. This is going for both Skiing and Snowboarding.

Why would it die? It's not like everyone can do a triple. You are going to see pros do triples all 4 ways, and sure that will be as big as flips/spins go, but that's not the end. Style and creativity are going to get bigger.

The contest scene would die. People do not want to see people doing the same tricks over and over again. Thats a fact

truee. but then again we can ask the same question for snowboarding if were looking at it in that perspective.

How could skiing possibly be a dying sport? It's the largest growing action sport (in terms of film segments), and in the last week alone a bunch of new tricks were thrown...

Skiings film segments don't have shit on snowboarding.... And he is saying with all these tricks that have been thrown this week, whats next? there is not much else that you can do off of jump. Once triples are done all 4 ways, theres not much else you are going to be able to do. Like I said above, and what others have said above, we are all going to start focusing more on style, and creativity. and rail game is going to become more important than ever.

is skating/bmx/boarding dead?

dont compare skiing to fruitbooting (which has a huge underground following)

this thread is dumb...

so, what is the solution to this? simply don't do the same tricks over and over again. even with double or triples, there is always room for another tweak on that new grab, shifties, nollies, butters, shuffles, or screaming seamens. mixing in a nollie or shuffle with a triple sounds ridiculous right now but so did a high mute double cork 14 what, 3-4 years ago?

nobody has even done a non-switch double bio or pistol flip-like trick in a comp or made it look nice. ii know b-paul does them switch, so why can't others? wouldn't that be a new trick? how about a switch double CORK 14 or something? double flat 10's and 12's could get big IMO, henrik harlauts in team swedens JOSS edit last year was so fuckin ill. now imagine a truck driver with one of those, or a high mute to mega shifty or shuffle? how about a single cork 12, 14 or even 16 with a nice grab? shouldn't be any more hucked than a triple, yet it could be just as hard to get on the right axis.

there is still plenty of room for progression and innovation. the comp scene is only going to die out if pro skiers run out of creativity. creativity is going to be what fuels the skiers of the future.

Triples and such will create a vacuum for innovation. At every plateau, people are always dumbfounded as to skiing's next step. Time will tell, but be assured there will always be innovation.

I wonder if anyone will ever do any tricks that involve taking off the skis in the air, like SSX games lol. Sounds crazy but who knows really. There's plenty of progression left for skiing.

i get what you're saying. i dont know whats going to happen with competitions after triples can be done all 4 ways. but i dont think anyone on this websites gonna stop skiing.

Maybe if skiing was just doing tricks. But it's not. So this thread is dumb as fuck. There's more to progress than just doing cork's.

skiings dying cuz the thugs are killin it....

naw i guess as long as you have fun skiing is never gonna die, be it a dub 12 mute or a fshifty flat 5 japan. you ski with your heart, not with ur tricks.

next years x games big air winner

The gear will innovate and new challenges and idea's will always be present.
Hover skis would be fucking awesome.
Don't forget the big mountain, urban and all other aspects of skiing as well. Park isn't the only part of skiing. As long as skiing is fun, it will live on in who enjoys it. If you're skiing JUST to do the biggest trick, then you need to explore the mountain and have some fun.

People are probly gonna strart bring park tricks to the pow and throw huge crazy lines.

Skiing has just begun!

triples will get the $$

style and creativity will get the credit, atleast to anyone in tune with the ski community.

skiing is not dying by any means

ahhh, remember in llike 2002 when the fusion between park and big mountain happened? Well now the same thing might happen again :o

someone will quad cork eventually. I can promise you that. It wont be for a while but it will 100% happen. until then the sport will grow by introducing a wide range of triples, rail game and style.

no,as stated before. skiing won't die, it will progress but in different sections of the sport. dubs in urban? off cliffs? rail game will be huge soon. i don't know what else more to say.

I think that shuffles will only look like under rotations a few judges/all non-skiers
"that was sick but he didn't bring it around!""No its a shuffle""Whats a shuffle?""its when you do the very end of the rotation delayed and really quickly at the landing.""So its an under rotation""..."

not the point. but i see where you're coming from, and if they're done like hornbeck does them, then there should be no confusion. he just kind of snaps his skis to the right position at the last second, doesn't really look under rotated

i guess that is kinda true. but vert skating went off the map for a while. its coming back though, but it's nowhere near as big as street skating
