Well, in the music world, dying is synonymous with 'age group moving from adults to 11 year old kids', and that's what mainstream (note: mainstream) rap is doing right now. What the fuck, I mean get better lyrics. 'I get in my scaled, drink 50 bottles of yak, smoke a 20 foot blunt and fuck 500 biatches'... wtf? I don't like rap, but the only thing that makes poor lyrics acceptable in rock bands is good music. In rap, nothing makes up for it, it's always the same beat.

As for underground rap, I know nothing about it, so it may be getting better.
