Is park skiing?

i mean all you're doing is tricks in the air and landing or screwing your skis on rails or something like that. are air tricks really considered skiing, which is supposed to be on the snow? what are youre opinions. im not against it, im just asking so dont be a hater
 
Would you not call a snowboarder in the park snowboarding? And it does take some amount to get to the park as well. And those who can ride park, can usually do damn well everywhere else on the mountain too.
 
im sorry if this offends anybody but: WHAT RIDING??? you go like 20 feet inbetween jumps and its usually not too steep. if you can spin a 1440 like schiller good for you but what does that REALLY say about how you ski? can you ski a 60 degree slope? could you have good form while going down anything? i havent skied park very much so im wondering if its worth it. sure its fun every once in a while, but for skiing all day? come on
 
Well, all the guys I ski park with are awesome skiers down steep/rough terrain and cliffs etc. Two of them used to be racers, and the rest still know how. You have to start skiing somewhere, people just change into wanting to ride majority park, but they don't lose all their skills.
 
Most people, esp east coast

would love to ski 60 degree slopes, there just

aren't any trails that steep, and no

powder so backcountry is about impossible
 
ive heard a lot of racers hating on freestylers and the other way around. if youre on skis and youre having fun theres no problem. call it whatever you want
 
this isnt what you were taklin about.

you were asking if it was skiing not if it was hard or not or weather or not you can ski a 60 degree slope.

if your going to make a comment this stupid atleast stay on what you were talkin about.

and yes it is fun, it is worth it. and if your tryin new things then skiing it all day can be fun.
 
park skiing is the only skiing i have ever really experienced, thats only cause my hill has 540ft of elevation so its pretty much impossible to ski anywhere else
 
If a racer doesn't perform particularly well in avalanche debris, they're still a skier. If a big mountain skier doesn't like ice, they're still a skier. Park skiers are skiers even if they don't have the best techinique (and i'm not saying they don't) on the rest of the mountain.
 
Yeah, it all depends. They are obviously skiing but they arn't necessarily good skiers because they can spin on a jump, park skiing is more gymnastics than skiing. that being said, I enjoy park in the springtime. but I definetly respect the "skiing" skills of big mountain skiers far more than people who can do spinny flippies. Being really good at big mountain skiing takes a lifetime of dedication and practice. "park skiing" on the other hand can be done by 11 year old kids who have good air sense. It's a tough call but you have to respect the fact that people will do whatever they enjoy the most, you can just leave it at that without offending too many people. Some kids in my ski crew live in one of the nicest place in north america to rip lines and they ski park 8 days a week.
 
not like traditional skiing, because you're not really makin your way down the mountain.. more just riding straight for a couple seconds, hitting a booter or rail, and stopping.. but, you do have skis on your feet and its on a ski hill, so it's definately skiing
 
if you accomplish a sw 1440 then you obviously need a rather large jump which requires a rather lot of speed going switch.... so that is atleast a 150 foot inrun you have to be able to ski down .... all park skiing is is creating obstacles to create a more difficult skiing scenario
 
yeah i see where u are coming from..well i am from a hill with very little vert drop and two kinda steep hills...so i spend most of my time in park...but if i go to a big mountain... dont know how people can just chill in park all day...

and..im sure most of the pros can rip up nay part of the hill....but some park rats...they cant alwys pull some nice turns with nice form on the groomers...and rip up the powder or back counry...

i deff get where u are coming from...i think
 
of coarse its skiing. if your asking the question are park rats good skiers? in general.

but that brings me to the park rat question. so here is a story. gosh i love stories.

i was standing infront of the biggest jump at my hill gettin ready to drop in. and past me flies this snowboarder dude that can barely stand up. he is all over the place sketchy and is heading straight for the jump. im like, oh ok, great idea buddy. you can barely board and your going to go off a 35+ foot jump. so he is heading down towards it gets off the lip and throws one of the styliest barrel rolls ive ever seen. my jaw dropped.

i then watched him board away, again, barely even being able to turn. it was pretty funny.

but the moral of the story is, get down the basic carving skills before entering the park.
 
this is a dumb question, park is just another form of skiing, just like racing, or soemthing like that, it involves skill most deffinitly, and if you dont ski anything But park, then you have a problem
 
i was thinking the same thing man, people at my mountain may be able to ski park better than me, but ill own them anywhere else. so does that make me a better skier
 
what the fuck yes its skiing, why does it even matter? it recquires comfort on skis to ski park well so most park skiers can usually do damn well all over the mountain. i mean, obviously big mountain is a whole different discipline. you could argue that there is no such thing as skiing because the electrons in your skis and the snow build up a charge and in effect they never touch one another. you are a dumb piece of shit, and by the way the you are blatantly dissing park skiing, you are presumptuously really bad at it.
 
my biggest beef is when some one is considered a really good skier when all they can do is throw spins on jumps and rails but their form sucks out side the park
 
I'm going to make a note i'm not very good at park...just so everyone knows, but i think skiing is what you can do outside the park...alot of kids can do flips, slide rails, and etc...yes it takes talent, but everyone can learn it in given time...its just arials w/ baggy clothes...granted i've been skiing for a little over 2 years, i've taken the time to establish my skiing outside the park, and find that i have way more fun doing stuff outside the park, and it scares me more than park to drop cliffs, i think big lines, spines, cliffs, tree's, and things outside the park are real skiing...i'm not just saying it cuz i'm not good at it..but because i truely think it takes more skill and more balls to do some of the things guys that dont ski park do
 
no he's not...yes it requires comfort on skis...but anyone can get that at an intermediate level of skiing as far as haveing parallel skis and stopping...honestly he's got truth in what he says, i can ski better than alot of kids that ski soley park, but yes they take me in the park, only because i'd rather have fun outside of it, than devote my whole entire day to riding park
