I was talking about my news feed here. There's a ton of posts that I wouldn't see if I didn't click on "show more". So I guess most people are too lazy to click on " show more ".Anyway if it gives a huge traffic boost to the site then keep posting a lot
NOBODY understands Facebook's algorithms... well maybe except Zuck.
However, my theory is that they stack up a couple of posts which they're unsure about. You may click one, your buddy may click another.... and then some small percentage of our ~110,000 fans see other random ones. If a few of them are deemed popular - then those will be pulled out of that view and rammed into your feed as a separate post.
I think the biggest mistake is to think that we can force something to be popular. Often the stuff that gets 'overlooked' simply wasn't popular with a mass audience. You may have liked it, but even if we only posted that in an entire day - it wouldn't have done any better.
To give you an example of how well our increased posting is doing, look at two months of video views from our Analytics program:
It was right there at the start of October where we implemented the new strategy. Its pretty clear what happened when we did this.
So even though in your mind logically something might be getting 'missed' - overall I can assure you that whatever has traction on FB is getting it and then some with the new strategy... and way more videos overall are getting views.
Now, the REAL problem with FB if you ask me, is its not what I necessarily consider 'good' that gets traction. Its what has more social mass appeal. Decent edits have seemed to do well, but not everything will.
The best thing you can do is encourage anyone involved in a project that you'd like to see get traction to share, comment and like on the Newschoolers post. Even a tiny little bit of signaling from a small group can make a big difference in the visibility.
