Is my helmet still safe?

I was doin a rail yesterday and I leaned back a little too much and ate it at the very end and hit my cheek pretty good. Lookin back at it, if I didn't have my helmet on, I mighta had a head injury. I remember seeing somewhere that after a helmet takes a few good blows like that it isn't as affective anymore. Is this true or is my helmet still safe for me

after a hard hit your helmet gets less safe, but its still safe, mine has taken lots of beating and i still use it... but if you got the$$$$$ and it was a good hit... buy a new one..

It all depends if you have a multiple impact or a single impact helmet.

Single impact will take 1-3 big hits and should be replaced. Multiple impact will go longer as long as the padding is still good and the shell is not damaged.

multi impact helmets don't exist (it's bullshit). If you took a good hit on your head, the best would be to buy a new one.

some companies believe it some don't. I wouldn't say it is bullshit though. I mean there is an ASTM standard for multiple impact helmets.

If you want to play it safe then get a new one.

what happens is the foam particles or whatever in ure helmet compact when u have a big fall so there will alwasy be that hardshell covering you but the foam compacts more and more everytime, like i dont care if i bang my head like ya thats fine but the other day i got a 4th degree concusion so i decided it would be smart to get a new one

Yeah, but don't forget the fact that there are two sorts of helmets: softshell helmets and hardshell helmets. Hardshells are the helmets which can take multiply beatings and are therefore safer...

judging by what you said it sounds like you took a good knock to the head but it sound like it was a major impact. I'd say your helmet is still good.

mine took 4 impacts that would have taken me to the hospital if i hadnt got it.

so i changed it.

you can have a holt for like 70 bucks so it s not mad expansive.

so if you can afford it, then you better get a new one. if you cant keep on wearing it, still better than nothing. :)

plus it s always cool to buy new things :)
