Is Music Tangible?

So I have to do this speaking competition for school and I need to talk for like 15 minutes about anything I want. Theres a few topics I have floating around, but this one is the most interesting. Since this doesn't need to be a report, I can just talk about my opinion. NS, I'd like to know what yours is on the topic.

Is music tangible?

Um... no. No it is not. It has no physical essence. It is not an extended body. Does that answer your question?

Kinda. Although I'm not really looking for a yes or no. I'm more just looking for how people see it. I mean, obviously music means different things to different people, so I'm not real sure if there is a real answer. I also like to think it's more complicated than just saying "no, because you can't touch it"

It's not though. There are plenty of interesting questions you can ask about music, but to attempt to answer "Is music tangible" in anything but the negative is to completely misunderstand the meaning of the word "tangible".

yeah, I also see music as being intangible. I was actually looking for people with opposing viewpoints, so then in my speech I could be proving something instead of just stating a fact. Great minds think alike i suppose.

i want to say its tangible but tangible in a literal sense and figurative sense are totally differrent, is it real and makes a HUGE differrence in some peoples lives, absolutely. can you see, touch, smeel or feel it? no

kind of a gnarly way of thinking of it:

the music is basically sounds that flow through the air, and although you cant see them, they do make contact with your eardrum and into your brain. and if your making the music, its flowing from your fingertips and mouth.

so, if you can some how ellaborate on that, i think it might help

scientifically, no

spiritually/figuratively, yes

sometimes i feel like music wraps around me. it's a really big part of my life, i don't just listen to it, i know when i play it i definatly feel it. i don't think tangible is a good word to use cus you're gonna get responses like J.D.'s and unless people really understand what you're saying they just think you're retarded. it needs to be understood by your audience that you're being figurative.

i changed my mind about the "scientifically, no" part. music is organized sound and silence. sound is vibration, you can literally feel vibrations, they are tangible.

either way it doesnt matter to me what other people think about it because I know that i feel music; to me music is tangible.

Yeah. I said hi last weekend. we went and got a burger, went swimming and then made sweet, sweet love in the back of my van.
