Is Jesus Real?

Jesus, as a person, was real. Jesus, with his heavenly powers, was not. The regular, mortal Jesus was a carpenter. Not a holy savior.

jesus of nazareth was a real guy. he was not the saviour of anybody or anything. and to what was said a couple posts above me, if it wasnt for christianity and the catholic church, we would be hundreds more years advanced. this is because the catholic church tried to stop scientific discovery and research however and whenever they could. also without religion we would not have religious extremism, and events like the holy crusades wouldnt happen.

is this a joke? we have found nearly a hundred different books that talk about jesus, and its estimated that thousands were written in the first 3 centuries. The four gospels were the best written, most accurate accounts and therefore stood the test of time and were obviously put into the bible, but there is a ton of evidence pointing to him existing. Now if he was the son of God or not is obviously up to you

i dont feel like finding sources, but there is literally no doubt among scholars that a person named jesus lived, and had many followers. there are enough personal accounts and letters (with no religious connection) that it cannot be denied. like someone above me said, the only debate is over whether or not he was the son of god/ savior etc.

Are you willing to bet your LIFE on the fact that He is not?

Might wanna take this a little more seriously.

You've heard it, but He loves ya.

god dammit, i hate these fucking religion threads. but this one is super freaking retarded, who the fuck had a camera in 100(give or take some years) AD.

and for the record, Jesus is most likely based on many different prophets who preached around that time.

Yes.The guy that used to live in my apartment before me while I was living in California was named, and I'm serious 100%, Jesus Christo. We used to get his old mail.
Jesus Christo.

I'm with you. Personally I'm agnostic, but what the fuck do I know? I have a friend who is extremely atheist and he laughs in the face of people who are religious and says they are stupid and that he's the only smart one and shit. Fucking pisses me off.

jesus is mentioned in a lot of books. but seriously christians, SERIOUSLY answer this question: why do you believe the bibles version and not the korans depiction? there he is just a prophet that later went to india.

i have the solution to this thread (and any other still to come):

all of you just sit down and think why you are believing whatever you are believing.

if it turns out that you dont know why, its probably fucking bullshit. if it turns out that you believe what you believe because you made up your mind and ended in whatever conclusion, great.

i hate, yes hate, christians that NEVER questioned all that stuff and just believe because its the way it is. i wrote an 78 page paper about the meaning of life, i looked at the whole thing from a bunch of angles, and i can honestly say that there is no divine entity inside this universe, and even if there was, its not allmighty nor fair. and even if it would, he would at least hope that you use your goddamnit brains to find that the universe it created shows no sign of a divine intervention.

its sad that we still have to talk about this in 2011.

blablabla, intolerant, blablabla disrespectful. goddamnit i am mad right now

Jesus the person definitely existed. But he was a regular guy. The

stories of his miracles were completely fabricated. There was a 30 year

lapse between his supposed death and the first written record of his

existence (Paul, who by the way says that he knew little of Jesus) and

the rest of it all kind of spins itself out of proportion into this wild

tale of a magical guy who died for us.

Religious people have changed Jesus to be exactly what they want. They

wrote stories of him doing things he didnt actually do all for the

purpose of control.

Also on the topic of religious people changing Jesus, isnt it a little

curious that given the area Jesus lived in, he is a tall white man?

1. Take regular guy, write stories about how cool he was.

2. Force everyone to adhere to the morals of these made up stories.

3. ???

4. Profit. Lots, and lots, of profit.

Honestly, it's your decision. Take what you will from my opinion on that, but if I met you in person I can honestly say that your opinion on this subject wouldn't keep us from having a perfectly friendly conversation.

I don't practice any form of religion whatsoever and I'm not crazy. I honestly believe if people stopped wasting time praying to something nonexistent they would fare much better in life. Hard knocks, gotta learn to grow from it.

The real guy was Joshua son of Joseph, he earned the title Jesus Christ (greek) by sacrificing his life for our sins, whether or not you think that means anything is your own decision, but you can't claim Jesus wasn't the savior without bringing some evidence to the table.

The second part of your post I found amusing, simply because it seems so preconceived. Have you studied the scientific history at all? Linnaeus, Mendel, Mendeleev, Avogadro, and Lavoisier all born of Christian faith and all educated by different aspects of Christianity. None were held back by Christianity, in fact their Christian upbringing is probably one of the biggest factors in their success, and without them we would be hundreds of years behind. But I would have to agree that the Catholic church did stall the inevitable for a short time. Regardless, Islam had our back scientifically during those dark days. The Muslims brought weed to Spain in the 10th-11th centuries, which marks its first documented cultivation of the plant in western europe(random, I know). So don't be so quick to bash religion based on your interpretation of history, there are a lot of diamonds in rough, pardon my Aladdin.

The reason religion was created in the first place is because thousands of years ago there was no science to explain random phenomenon's, so the ancient homosapiens interpreted as a higher authority such as gods or godesses. There is nothing at all in todays society that happens, and is interpreted as a god or godesses doing, it is all now explained with proper science. Religion was simply a flaw in the human race.
