Is it possible to ski 4 maybe 5 days a week at CU and not do shitty?

agreed. It's way further away from skiing than i would want to be if I was going to school to ski a bunch too.
it also depends on your major, how motivated you are, and how much you are planning on partying

downer. if you have a car that doesn't get complete shit for gas mileage it doesn't cost that much. plus if you know anyone in the mountains or dont mind sleeping in the car then you can just spend fri-mon up there.

Yup! I skied 5+ a week and did not do shitty. You just have to pick and choose your classes carefully. I would imagine it's difficult with some majors, but it was super easy with journalism.

all depends on your major. As a finance major there was no way in hell I could have done that this year and passed my stuff.

yea but you're still driving around 2 hours to get to skiing, and if you don't have a place to stay in summit that's a whole lot of driving. plus i70 sucks.

If you want to ski that much you need an easier major and you need to be determined to do work when ya come back from skiing. Also its not that easier to get tuesday thursday classes, depends on the major some let you bulk up tuesday thursday, some monday wednesday friday which is what i have, but some require 5 days a week like some semester in engineering and shit like that. I skied about 3 or 4 days a week this season, grades aren't horrible but not as good as theyv been in the past, 4 to 5 would really be pushing it but it wouldn't be impossible.

Just go to DU. They're on the quarter system. I used to take Winter quarter off. Skied pretty much every day.

man heres from my first hand opinion.

I went to college in vancouver for a year and a half so I could ski (from east coast), then I just plain dropped out because I wasn't focused enough and moved up to whistler and skied everyday, this made my life 10x better and I'd wake up every morning thinking of how awesome my life was. If your really wondering how many days a week you can ski with school just don't go to school, do it later. I'm going back to ottawa and doing fall semesters at a college there and moving to a ski resort in the winter (talked to scott hibbert he did the same). Seriously man, just take a year off, move up to wherever you want, you will not regret it, do it while your young and can still get mad air and do sweet shit.

anyway, thats my two cents, peace.

in contrast, I'm having a blast balancing two days a week of school with 5 days a week of skiing and doing whatever I want. It's even easier at UofU cause you can take night classes at 6 and still ski till 4 and have plenty of time to eat dinner and shit.

God i would love to do that, but i feel confident that if i did i just wouldnt go back to school. My plans to just finish quick, do alright, get the degree then ski bum after that until i feel like being responsible. And because my parents would be so pissed/disappointed if i fucked up college

why are your comments always so negative?

anyways its called carpooling, i swear it works. plus if you have these things called "friends" you can stay at their pads and not have to drive back and forth. duh!

Same here. I have like the same plans. I might be goin to CU, and if I do I'll just sleep in my car on the weekends in Summit so I don't have to drive so much and pay for so much gas.

theres a reason its called degenerate university and also I didnt apply there. I got talked into CU after having my heart set on the U for quite some time and now am thinking I might regret CU in the short run. And like partying is fun but honestly with how many skiers it seems are flooding to the U I dont think gettin buck nasty hyphy is as hard as it may have been before at the U.

Dude you're hurting my feelings! Actually, you can't spell dumbass without DU. ...and what's wrong with being a degenerate?

Dude, great thread because Im going to Boulder next year too. And I've wanted to know how much I can ski and still do well in school.

hah I know your joking and I was too man I just think its funny that of the 3 kids I have known that went to DU in the past 2 years all three ended up dropping out within the first year either due to drinkin or just being a dumbass in general. Im sure its still a good school to those who apply themselves though.

the majority of the people at boulder are in two wonderful majors that let you do whatever the fuck you want and still pass. one of them is communications, and the other is something known as "undeclared". granted, you'll be using your 40k a year diploma to score a job at starbucks, but if you wanna ski 5 days a week, ball hard my friend, ball hard.

the other option is to take spring semester off and go summer and fall.. it's what i've been doing for almost 3 years now and i'm right on track.. but yes, you can still do spring semester and ski..

no way if youre an engineering major but liberal arts prolly. plus theres a lil mountain, nothin special, called el dora about 35 mins aways or less if you drive fast. Thats where i would ski weekdays then weekends go up to summit or what not

i skied 5 days a week pretty much all spring semester and i'm doing well in my classes and have only gotten stuck in traffic once or twice all year. it does NOT take 2 hours to get to summit, its more like an hour 15. the drive isn't bad at all and its definitely worth it to get to ski breck or keystone on a weekday cause they're both practically empty then.

Is that how much it is now? Dayam! Well your pretty much gonna be paying off your college tuition for the rest of your natural life anyway. What's another 100k going to hurt?

If you are in Business school or a pie major like pschology, English, etc and are decently smart, then yes, if you schedule very efficiently. Also, you need to be able to ride hard all day and still be able to do schoolwork at night, and compromises will be made llike social life extracurricular involvement etc.

I assuming your parents are going to be paying for everything, because I doubt you can be a full-time student, ski 5 days a week and hold a job enough hours a week to support yourself, just doesn't appear to be enough hours in the day, although I am sure there are people who are doing that.

In my experience, I have only been able to ski 3 days or 4 a week at most without grades being affected. But, I personally am not good at skiing all day and being able to stay awake all night and do homework, I work much better in the mornings when I am fresh. I personally think that if all you care about is skiing, you should just ski and work, and do college later when you will actually apply yourself. If you try to do the ski 5 days a week, and do full time classes either you aren't going to live up to the full potential of your skiing, and you will be dissapointed, or your grades will be sub-par and you will be dissapointed.

Or just come here knowing you are going to get a nice education, be surrounded with hot women, and get to ski a fair amount and just be happy.

Period. There's no reason to go to college if you don't plan on putting effort into it. If you really want to ski all the time, just go in the fall and summer, and take the spring semester off as was mentioned earlier. You're paying too much money to go to school, especially CU if you're out of state, to just go skiing.

Hey man, I went to a school my fresh and soph years that had no skiing what so ever. The spring of my junior year, which is the semester i am finishing right now I went to a school with good skiing. I had class on tuesday and thursday and skiied 4 or 5 days a week. I worked during school until this semester so that I could pay for school and ski trips so i learned to organize my time pretty well. Let me tell you this, if i would have gone to a school with good skiing, I would not have gotten shit done my first year and been in some trouble school wise. Plus at CU you have the drive, which if you go through the tunnel, it can turn into a 6 hour drive comming back from the mountains. Good luck with your decision.

i know people that do that easily at the U of U. you can do a lot of generals that way and plus your only like half an hour away from like 5 resorts!

but if you ARE concerend about gas don't do what clarke does and maintain a girlfriend who lives in boulder, because then you get to drive to and fro everyyyday. HA. jk.lol.

Yaa, but you gotta schedule well, be able to not party/work when tired, and helps a lot if oyu have a car. i was skiing 4-5 days a week last spring semester, and 4 days a week last semester at CU. It can be done but you gotta be dedicated, and stay up on the weekends

I'm in the engineering program at the U of U and was able to ski 4-5 days a week, party very often, never miss a pow day, and still keep my grades up. You just have to accept the fact that the days you are not skiing are most likely going to be terrible. It would also be much easier if I was not an engineer.

This is what I'm doing. I'm loading up on classes in the summer and fall and trying to get out as fast as I can, then I plan on moving to either CO or UT and living the life. We'll see how it ends up though.

if you think that already than that is MORE of a reason to do it, go and live your life until you feel your ready to get on with the boring part. Living here in whistler has made me realize that you should be in love with the life you have, why make your life difficult?

if you can ski everyday, fuck hot girls and live in a pretty decent house then what else is there? You eventually have to grow up and get on with your life but taking 1 or 2 years off in between isnt going to effect you in the least. it will actually effect you in a positive way because like myself i had no idea what i wanted to do when i got out of highschool so i just did business administration. so i wasted a bunch of time and money when i could have been skiing. now i know what i really want to do, which is advertising because it uses more creativity... you'll learn a lot about yourself in the time you take off and you'll also grow up a bit.

Just curious, how do you pay for that? Restaurant job in the evenings? Summer job enough to last through the winter?

if you're going to school 5 days a week you dont really have time to stay up here, plus it is about 20 bucks round trip from boulder to summit unless you have some non 4x4 in which case you'll probably crash and die, and it's cheaper to stay in boulder.

yea man the best way to do it (first hand experience) is work hard all summer at a decent job, try and make around 5000$, go to school in the fall and then take your 5g's to some ski resort in the winter and live it up from january-may
