Is it possible to poch the summer camps lanes

Why would anyone pay to go to camp if you can just poach the lines easily and without repercussions? It'd be pointless. So yeah, let's all just say fuck it and be selfish, cheap little cunts. Camp enrollment will become more expensive, numbers will dwindle, and eventually there won't be camps anymore. I know a few people who work at these things, and they deserve to be paid fairly, so think about someone other than yourself for a minute and realize that, like I said, you're making good peoples' jobs harder and actually threatening their livelihood by trying to undercut the whole idea of summer camps. It's a winter sport... you don't somehow automatically have the right to ski in the summer, so if you don't want it badly enough to save the admittedly large sum of money required to get access to camp parks the legit way, get the fuck over it and wait for december like you're not an asshole.
 
Camps are rip off? Really?

OK, go build yourself a pile of features (I hear cat time costs about 300$ hour) then maintain them every day (oh yeah don't forget all the salt you have to buy).

Then go get some rails built, and pay for helicopters to fly them up the mountain.

Then, get yourself a hotel room in Whistler. Don't forget about transport to and from the airport as well.

Then buy meals at different restaurants every day (OK so COC doesn't provide dinners but most all of the other camps do)

Then buy lift tickets.

Then hire a pro like JP, or Turpin, or Rory, or Sarah, or Sterbenz, or TJ, etc. to coach you every day.

Don't forget about taking care of all the people you will need to help maintain the features that you have built, you probably will need to pay for their housing, meals, and lift tickets too.

If you manage to pull all of that off, then congratulations. I wonder how much it will cost you compared to the price of going to a camp where all of that is taken care of for you.

You guys have absolutely no idea how hard the people up there work to put those camps together. If you really think it is a "rip off" then don't go.

Poaching camps, quite simply, is stealing from some of the hardest working people in the ski industry, including one of the founders of this site.

 
That's it right there. By the way... you forgot to add what it costs to actually be allowed to hold a camp on the glacier in the first place. It's not like W/B is just going to let any jackass waltz on up there and start charging people for access.

no one is arguing that its not expensive to run a summer camp. I'm sure it costs a fuckload of money, but for one thing the camps don't 'hire' pros. most of them do it to train, and just to be able to ride in the summer.

I don't believe for one second that Shane Szocs or any of those guys would be running the camps if they were losing money on them either.

Its more a rip off considering what else you could do with that money. Like go skiing for a month anywhere in the world.

The whole exclusiveness of the summer camp parks is gay anyways. In europe the glaciers are open to everyone in the summer and they have fucking sick parks, which is why european skiers are dominating comps...
 
you could actually ski at portillo chile for a week for 600 dollars, with a 1,000 dollar ticket, comes to 1600 dollars. Lift tickets and food are included. Sick deal. I might actually have to hit that up sometime.
 
Poaching is straight up garbage. Not cool at all. Get a job, save some money over the summer and then go ski... simple as that. And for those of you saying the public parks are shitty... you have more than I have, I live in Wisconsin and i would be thrilled to have a public park even if it was shitty. All I need is a few rails and maybe a jump or two, I'd be happy with that. You guys are way too spoiled, I wouldn't use that as an excuse to poach because it's pretty weak. Beggers can't be choosers.

Don't poach it's lame, save some cash money and go to a better park, but don't complain about what you have because it's more than most people.

no you are extremely wrong, dishwalla actually lived in austria for a while so i think he would know more than you. and yes ive been to europe 3 times to ski and it is much sicker, and there are a FUCKLOAD more sick skiers than there is in north america.
 
Check your facts before ranting.

All of the camp coaches are "hired" and paid. And fed and housed as well, and in many cases their travel to Whistler is also paid by the camps.

 
2 years ago i was at high cascade snowboard camp and some skiers poached. everyone got pissed but i thought it was pretty funny.
 
Well I will tell you something..

Just a few days a go we caught som poachers through high north...and it ended up a 30 vs 1 brawll...guess who won!
 
you dont understand the people who ski in europe, i skied with russ henshaw for like a week before any of you fuckers even knew about that kid and his rediculousness. and that was just one of the skiers that was training in austria, there were a shitload more just as good as him.
 
i was at high north last summer and my friend wanted to go demo the stl's. we took a few runs before though and nobody noticed
 
It's not THAT well for them, but yeah housing is paid for same with a certain salary... it's not great pay for the most part. The diggers get the same deal as well.

Ever thought the sponsors might hook most of that up? 'Hire' pro skiers, they are all buddies man I doubt JP is going to tell Szocs he wants 10 grand a week to ski.

hate to go off topic but you calling somone immature for using the term "extremely gay" is really fucking retarded. Almost every kid between the ages of like 14 and 24 use the word gay in a saying similar to that. the word gay in general is so played out that it has absolutley no meaning anymore.

You are really proving how little you know about it.

Do any of the High North coaches other than Shane ski for K2? No. Does Momentum have a single Salomon athlete as a coach? No.

Coaches are paid anywhere from 100 to 300 per day depending on the camp and the coach.

JP doesn't make 10 G a week, but he definitely gets paid by Shane for every single day that he coaches.

But you are right about the whole "beside the point" thing. The point is that poaching camps is STEALING from the sports founders and legends.
 
last week there was a brawl on the high north lane because these snowboarders poached it.

they came through once and 70 kids rained snowballs upon them. the second time they came through a kid ran out and grabbed one of them while he got pelted by snowballs some more and then this other kid tried to stop this other girl and thew her on the ground (not on purpose)

so the girl's boyfriend got all pissed and wrestling and whatnot ensued. i thought it was rather hilarious.
 
I really dont think ONE fucking run through a camps lane is really going to hurt them in any way whatsoever. Yes if someone keeps trying to session it and ruining all the landings etc than that is bullshit. Alot of people can afford to get to the mountain etc but they cant also afford to pay for the camps too. It takes alot of work/effort to get to some of these places/mountains/parks and then to have some guy tell you cant ride their snow feature that will end up melting anyway and he wont let you hit it once, seems kind of lame. Now, im not saying that you should let every single noob into your park. But you never know, you let one guy check out your park and you never know they might be a paying customer next year at your camp because they liked the park so much.
 
lets change the subject a lil- BEST POACH EVER: goes to a kid on here named TAN-who poached SMS or HIGH NORTH completely naked with the camp he was in 's flag. I THINK it was SMS CAMP he poached with the High North Flag in his hands. absolutley harlious story when i heard it! HAHA

Camps are sick for those people who can go to them. It sucks that money affects how much you can ski, and where you can.
 
true fact i just got enough money for 1 sesh. im gonna do it next summer, try to split the cost of it since i will be graduating high school, and get 2 weeks of sick skiing, but seriously it is fucking expensive for most kids it took me a long time to save up
 
I wouldn't say cheap little cunts... that's a little harsh when you have to drop 1800 for a week... more like... can't afford it at all.
 
man can't you just admit that your first response was way harsh?

the reason people dish out so much money for camp is because their parents are willing to pay it because its a safe environment and they are being watched over all the time, not very many 16 year old kids would be allowed to go live at whistler for a month and bum and poach lanes. And its not like poachers are stealing money from the people that run the camp, because if they are poaching lanes they sure as hell aren't about to pay a few g's for camp.

Basically if you can get away with it then good for you, but if you get caught and get your ticket ripped or punished (NOT to the extent of charges being pressed) then you took the risk and you gotta deal with it, but this subject is worth getting all worked up about, people are gonna poach regardless
 
the point is that by making multi thousand dollar camps, much of the skiing community gets ignored
 
dont even try. i went to high north and 1 poacher got his ass kicked by about 30 kids and im pretty sure he regreted it. and everyone else gets hit by like a trillion snowballs so its not worth it.

i agree that poaching the camps is wrong, but i wish it wasnt so friggen expensive, and as much as i would love to go, i know i never will because of the price
