Is it possible to get a decent camera for around 300$

so my birthday is coming up and would really like to get a decent camera, not another junky point and shoot. what companies should i look into ? ones to stay away from ?

it might be possible, depends where you look, i'd suggest either canon or nikon, and i'd check out keh.com

honestly a nice canon point and shoot like the G9 or G8? will do you justice those cameras are prime time point and shoots with SLR setting adjustments.

id suggest looking into a leica.

D40s are not that bad. they are a good entry level DSLR, just learn to shoot in manual. lenses matter alot more than the body. i would go with that and you can always upgrade from there.

a nikon D100 and a 18-55 lens can usually be found on ebay for around how much you wanna spend

I liked the D40 a lot and later upgraded to D90 but the D40 takes some great pictures
