Is it illegal???

Today me and my friend were goin to his house and we watched 2 cops set up a speed trap, in a place where everyone speeds. It was like 1/4 mile down from his house. WE were bored and it was nice day so we decided to set up lawn chairs at the end of his driveway and hold up signs saying "Po-Po Ahead slow down" People were honkin and waving and giving us thumbs up, i felt pretty good about myself.

But the question is... is it illegal?
 
no, why would it be, people flash their lights 3 times if their nice to let u know theres a cop, and thats not illegal.
 
hahahahah thats hilarious, it's not illegal but speeding is bad at times, I guess you have good reason to feel that this spot is a gay ass trap so what you're doing seems legit. Props mang
 
what you should have done is have one of you up street like you did and have the other go down past the cops with a sign that says "tips"
 
It might be in some states, I'm not sure.

But anyways, that's the coolest fucking thing ever. Props. So many cops out this weekend...
 
why would stuff like that be illegal? i dont get it. Basically ur just tellin people to do what they should be doing, slowing down. So, in fact, u are helpin the cause by telling people to do what they should do in the first place, meaning no reason to be ticketed. good job
 
It should be legal. Heres my reasoning.

In golf, a person is not allowed to ask anybody but their partner or caddy for help playing the game. One of the few things exempted from this rule is the location of the pin. You can ask that because it is considered common knowledge and by telling somebody you only save them the trouble of running ahead to look.

The fact that a cop is sitting at a certain spot is public knowledge. You are only telling people what they could already know. Nobody can prove that all those people werent going to get out of their cars, walk up, and check for a speed trap.

I guess next time you could just say "Slow down, thank me later" or "Slow down, I have my reasons" then your not really fucking with the cops and they cant prove that you werent there trying to do the same thing they were.
 
well it would not be illigal because the cops goal is not to give tickets it's to get people to slow down and obay the law. So your just getting people to obay the law. and if they ever came up to you and told you to stop (you probably should) but you could just say you were tiered of people speeding by your house and found that this was an effective method and that you had no idea that there was a bunch of lazy pigs down the road eating doughnuts while holding a radar gun.
 
Word, that probably saved me from one or two speeding tickets this weekend, and I know I probably saved a few other people from the same, as well.
 
I've never seen/heard of anyone around here flashing lights when there is a cop. I only flash dumb asses who leave their brights on.
 
hahaha thats fucking awesome. You rock. One time I flashed this car that was coming towards me because I had just passed a cop that was on the side of the road. It was at night. Once I passed the car I realized it was a state trooper. Oh fuck. I got out of there as soon as possible and nothing ever came of it. Either way, sketchy as fuck.
 
I've seen pleanty of people in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, California, and British Columbia do it. I picked it up in AK, and have seen it most abundantly used in OR (probably the cops here are fucking evil and regularly hand out tickets for going five over the limit).
 
I had a friend who back in 10th grade thought it was really funny to flash random cars with his bright at night. So he was high with a couple kids(not saying its bad just stating it) and they flashed a car, and as it passed it was a cop, and he started to brake, and they almost tossed their pipe and shit, luckly he was taking a turn at a road, i found it funny, but i wasn't there.
 
Ohh shit, definitely sketch. I'm always afraid that I'll end up doing something like that at night. Fucking cops, man.
 
i just wanted to put this in here, a big thankyou to all you guys who DO flash after seeing a cop. In CO it's a pretty unknon tradition, i my self have been saved 3 times by curtious drivers giving warnings, and always give the signal. practice good road karma!
 
Dude you are the shit i want to recruit you for my neighborhood...seriously ive had cops wait two houses down from me and throw their lights on just from how loud my car sounded comin out of the driveway sayin it sounded like i was in a hurry and being reckless...F**k the Police they say they are just out there makin thing safe but i see them doin the same things they pull me over for and what nothing happens and they are supposed to be the safest drivers on the road!
 
sometimes when i pass speed traps and i have nothing to do i will sit in my car a little ways up, flashing my lights at people. haha. my mom told me i can get a ticket, beacuse its illegal to warn people of cops, but i donno.
