Is it copywrite infringement...

to paint a picture that another artist made, onto a surfboard top, if its just for me, and its not a direct reproduction (i.e a print)

technically im sure it is, but it's for your own use, you're not selling it, and the chances of the artist seeing it are very slim im guessing.

I think that it only is if you claim that it's your own work. Otherwise drawing a copy of someone's work in art class would be illegal.

My teacher for ap art this year told us it was a copyright infringement to do that but know one will care unless you are selling it

it is if you claim it as your "intellectual property". If you deny that the original image was yours, it's not, and it's not even an issue until you try to make money off it really.

stuff in art class usually falls into the fair use category because its for educational purposes. You'll be completely fine though.

for one its ot like your taking a scanned copy and priniting it onto the board, it will be different

it might be but no one will care. if I saw someone in the lineup with the mona lisa on their board I wouldn't call up paris and tell them to get their asses over here.

what's it going to be of?

my girlfriends a pretty rad artist, like went to a art school in toronto and shit, so shes doing the art work, and its a picture by chilithom called missocles, its on his website under the summer gallery

Hey ya'll,

no matter what you think...it's always better to just ask! We artists always find out...

if it's allready done, send me an image so I can check it out.
