Is it bad to nail planks to a living tree. bc i found a nice tree to make a ropeswing on and I don't want to hurt the tree.

Well, it's not good for it if that's what your asking. Of course it will do some damage to it. But it's not a huge deal, you aren't cutting it down or anything.

it should be fine just dont pu them everywhere on it. i have a huge tree in my yard with a tree house and stuff adn that trees fine only thing that got to it was ants.

If you want to build a ropeswing then why are you nailing planks to a tree? Get a ladder and climb up tie the rope around a strong branch, attach a board to the bottom of the rope and there's your swing?

as everyone pretty much said, it's fine.

but i agree-why do you have a ladder to a rope swing?

if you're building a ladder on a tree trunk, make a treehouse at the top.

well there are a couple problems. if the tree has rough bark the nails wont go in deep as you think they would giving you less stability. so hopefully its a smooth bark tree or you have long ass nails. but it is bad for the tree to take off bark because the bark contains the phloem and the tree needs that to live.
