You have to diversify, at least with stocks there's the possibility you could make money. With SS we are guaranteed to get less out than we put in.

The thing is, not everyone is JUST rioting over the 60-62 SS thing right now in France... There are plenty other issues putting people out into the streets right now... that was just the powderkeg that kicked off the party.

France is like that woman who bottles everything up over the last 3 weeks, and then one night just EXPLODES on you about everything you've done wrong or done to piss her off...

The fact that canada and alot of countries rely on the US has nothing to do with its domestic politics, which was what I was criticizing. Pretty much all of the problems i listed are not Canadian problems but American problems. How does mutual dependency reciprocate into meaning that the US is free from criticism?
 
I am not saying the States is free from criticism cause there is a lot of stupid shit in this country but the problem I have is when countries call us saying "COME HELP US SAVE THIS COUNTRY!" (the UN with Somalia and shit) we go help, things get fucked, we leave and then the world critiques us for sticking our nose where it doesn't belong.

Shit like that pisses me off.

I dont blame the French for anything... They are what we SHOULD be... not sticking their noses anywhere, but having sweet aircraft carriers with madddd rocker on the front, and are able to go have sweet wargames with other countries on them.
 
I say take the military base out of Okinawa. The local Okinawan people (seriously, the people from Okinawa are culturally and ethnically different that regular Japanese main-landers) hate having it there as girls keep getting raped and shit like every weekend.

Outside of that I have no idea. Just don't get involved in the Middle East and Africa. They never want our help so don't go and help. Let them destroy each other.

I appreciate that this thread has it all: rants, humor, hate, argument and i'm sure someone has cried so it's pleasing to all audiences....I stopped reading all of the content except for some of the reposts by panda and dingo because they've made me laugh the most.

 
though it does seem that France is being extreme, you have to put it in perspective.

An east coaster would be thrilled with 3-6 inches of powder, but on the west coast this is considered shitty

another example would be that in the US many of us wait until we are 18-22 (ish) to enter a professional field (ie not just a summer job or bagging groceries), but in Africa, people are lucky to live this old. Perspective is always key, but even taking that into account, it does seem ridiculous

but yes, southern France is the best. Paris is nice for a weekend or a few days now and then, but otherwise get outta there.

And to anyone who mentions shit about France surrendering etc....first off, France has been fighting and winning wars since before anyone even know north america even existed. So no, the US doesn't quite have the military history of france. And had germany been next to the US, the entire country would have been taken in weeks in 1940. Does anyone know why? Isolationism. USA barely had a standing military. And i still find it a bit hilarious how in one argument, people say "we have no right to be in iraq! it's so stupid, we need to get out of there. The french are stupid fucking pussies for not going in!"

and yes, flipping over cars and lighting them on fire is how shit gets done in France. At 1 end of a street the winning fans of a soccer match will be flipping cars, at the other the losers will be. In the middle muslim youths will be, and somewhere along the street will be the anti-whichever politial party people flipping cars. It's as french as the eiffel tower. Bored? Need to protest? Grab some matches, gas, and get your car flipping gloves.

The FFL isnt in algeria in the same manner in which the CIA never has secret prisons, guantanamo bay inmates are never tortured, and the FBI is always honest.

its been asked before...how you would go about assaulting an entire base held by the foreign legion? Back in the day, something like 5 remaining FFL soldiers led a bayonet charge against 3k mexican soldiers.
 
i think the only reason the US would have lasted a bit longer is because of size. Invading the us is like going into russia. It's just enormous. They can keep moving away from you for months while retaining a decent strength force. But the us had neither the production capabilities nor standing army to put up a huge fight.

plus France had already seen a huge portion of their country absolutely obliterated beyond all belief 23 years earlier, so they didn't want a repeat of that.
 
This is precisely why the individual egotistical mentality doesn't work.
People make mistakes, it's as blatant as that. Obviously people should have control of their actions but collectively people learn from mistakes individuals won't always do that.
This is why you need a two tone system. The Ayn Rand style of individualism is complete and utter garbage. Think about any example. Two people are in a scenario. Are you going to run a risk that jeopardizes their safety for something meager? Let's say you take a financial risk in a partnership and turn out wrong. Your individual actions cause both to be harmed. Obviously this makes you think twice. There are much better and many more examples but this is the only off the top of my head. Collectivism can be good and it can be bad. The individual can be right or wrong and either hardly learn from their mistakes.

The Foreign Legion has it's roots in Algeria. Basically when it was founded, foreigners werent allowed in any French forces, as in the past, they usually had sucked and barely had training. So they made them their own branch because there was an influx of foreigners at the time. It was founded in 1831, and first went to algeria...in 1831.

So needless to say, they trace their roots back there. Of course it isnt well publicized, and quite frankly could be completely false, I have read from various accounts that much of the training still occurs in algeria, despite the fact that its no longer a french colony. This is possible because as soon as you join the legion, you lose your identity. You can't leave, you can't contact anyone outside, and you have no ID, money or any documents. Contrary to popular belief, you can no longer be a criminal and join though.

I'd highly recommend watching "Escape to the legion" the series with Bear Grylls. It's a very narrowed down series showing a quicker training process. Absolutely insane. Any respect i lost for bear from man vs wild was immediately made up for and doubled by this series.

Of fucking course the US does not have the military history of France! They are two separate countries with different histories and people, good job on pointing out the obvious. Second there is no way Germany would have been able to take America in weeks, regardless of a standing military our people have the means and resources to organize themselves and would have and will if any country were to invade. Third, there is no argument. We had no right to be in Iraq. We did anyway. Once we occupied Iraq the French contractors wanted in. Total pussies.
