Is buying a spk the solution

I know there are lika a billion threads about that shoe, so I used the searchbar but didn´t find a thread that had the informations I need.

So, my problem is that when I often land backseated my calfs start hurting like mad. I don´t really get shinbang, but the whole back of my lower legs start to hurt like mad, especially on the sides right behind my shinbone. Since I took all season off and should be able to ski every single day of the season (well, maybe not every single day, but 5-6 days a week should be possible) I was thinking about a solution.

A week ago when I got my new skis (which are mounted for the boot I have now which sole is 307mm long) I tried the spk chaos which fitted perfektly. But what caught my attention was how high the back of the shoe was. Its at least 5-10cm higher than the one of the shoe I own now and it seems to support the lower leg pretty well when landing backseated.

My question is: Do you guys think a skp would solve my problem? I should also mention that I already mounted my ski (btw, how long is the sole of a size 42 spk boot) and that I´m almost out of money, so I´d also buy the boot if it really helped and as lasts solution.

thx

I have the SPK Pro's and I'm not sure if they'll fix the problem but they will most likely help. They have a real thick pad on the backside of the cup that supposedly assists in preventing shinbang.

If I was you I would talk to someone at a shop that really knows their stuff, or if you can go to Surefoot and get all fitted up.

If not I'd say at least try to find a demo pair

I think he's from Europe, where they count differently, and english isn't is first language. They're called Boots, not shoes.

from the way salomon advertise it i guess it'd probably help you quite a lot, it wouldnt completely solve your problem, but help. Just work on your landings until you dont land backseat so much

buying didfferent boots might help alittle, but what would really take care of your problem is to not land backseat. nothing will fix your problem as good as that.

i still get that pain in the back of my shins a little bit. maybe not as bad as old boots... pretty big difference in shinbang though.

You wouldn't happen to know the pricing of Surefoot boots (including fitting and all). I'll be up at Whistler a lot, might drop by the Surefoot place up there

I rode my SPK Pros for the first time this weekend, best boot ever. Every tie i landed backseat, there was no problem.

Fromhttp://www.feedthehabit.com/skiing/surefoot-custom-ski-boot-fitting-in-park-city-ut/ :

The Surefoot Thotic is $185.

Our Boots prices vary from about $300 - $775

Last years products are 30-50% off.

The Surefoot boot which includes the shell, liner, and Thotic is $815, $905,or $995 depending on performance level. (US$).

360-Degree Golf Shoes $390 & $410 w/ Thotic

they give a guarantee that if you are unhappy with them at all, they'll fix or replace them

so consider it as buying 1 boot that should last at least 5 years rather than 2 or 3

it's worth it if you add it up

you shouldnt have to remount your bindings, just have them adjusted if you get new boots. 27.0 spks should have somewhere around a 310-315mm boot sole.

One other option is buy some soft padding and glue it in around the back, or go talk to your shop about it. my local shop gave me a big sticky sheet of padding to basically go do what i want with and fix my problem

You can grip and complain abut the gear, but any boot will work perfectly when you work on fixing the problem in your skiing, not in your equipment.
