Is a Panda a bear?

Ok me and my friends were wondering, is a Panda a bear...? I mean it has the name Panda bear...but is it really a bear? and if it's not why not and what is it? Thaaanks!

I don't know about Panda's, but Koala's aren't bears...that's all I know.

Yah we googled it and different sites say different things. Some places say it is a bear and others don't ahhhh. And is a red panda a bear too....I mean it is a panda....or is it?

Yah, but what about like the different type of pandas like the Red panda? Is a panda a general animal not a giant panda but just like a regular panda? or is the giant panda the norm?

Yes, it is a bear. It's the oldest living bear species and closely related to the spectacaled bear

i saw it on imax when i was in the 8th grade... i think

and according to my encyclopedia they are part of the racoon family, but now classified as bears
