Is 122mm in the waist too wide for a 5’11 145IB male

I’ve been looking into buying a pair of candide 5.0 but I think it might be a bitt too wide for me (5’11 and 145 IB) here in Washington/PNW. I had a pair of 2.0 for the last 2 seasons but noticed they were moved around way too much at choppy high speeds and was wondering if 5.0’s would be good for going fast on groomers and PNW pow.

You need stiffer, heavier skis than the 2.0 to be better through crud and going fast on groomers. 5.0 will give tons of float but less versatile on groomers of course. 184cm Moment Wildcat(116mm) or the Wildcat 108(if you want even better groomer performance) as both are great in PNW crud and tracked snow without being heavy. Decent float on the 108 for your size in the 184 and amazing in the 116mm version. The 5.0 would be kinda overkill for your size and would end up being too much work for you on groomers. The Wildcat 116 is good on soft groomers, crud, a bit of snow or a lot of new snow. Not just a powder day ski.

Get it. Seriously the CT 5 is way more versatile than people think it is, my buddy [tag=61928]@skidemon22[/tag] skis them here on the East Coast as his every day ski. Super fun and real fun on groomers, obviously they crush it in deep snow and chunder too

thank you for being an intellectual

Buy some creatine and protein powder. Sweet jesus. The 5s will be much stiffer vs. the 2.0s. Are you opposed to the 4.0s? You might find the 4 flex profile better fits your weight. Unless you are an unreal skier, the 5s could overpower you. I'd more seriously consider the 4s if you're dead set on Faction.

This is more what I was referring to in my post. The width isn’t the issue, as I love wide skis but the OP weight might be the issue for these skis.

The 5.0 is a very stiff ski and if you’re a decent skier at 170 lbs plus, it wouldn’t be that demanding and it would naturally flex into lots of turn shapes and be quite versatile. At 145lbs, you have to on your game working to skis and depending on the OP style and ability, it might be too much work and not a fun ski for them. If you could demo before buying so that you could see for yourself as it’s not a “you’ll love it for sure” like it might be with a larger skier.

If you could demo the 4.0 too that might be better suited as it has a more forgiving flex.
