thats rediculous...so prices on everything would go up, because even to make the so called 'green' products companies need to use equipment and what not that is not enviromentally friendly. Plus...you'd be paying more for car tires, gasoline, any plastic product or product that uses plastic. I mean come on...

the point is that we have to curb our consumption in order to survive as a species, and if higher costs on consumer goods reflect this need, then so be it.

 
About that tax on materials needed for production:

Would that really encourage whatever we need for a better weorld, or would it just make competion more fierce, seeing how there's less capital to go around. Perhaps tax breaks for enviromentaly-responsible companies could be covered by increased taxes for companies that don't change. And, I think the extra tax revenue, would be best spent as aid in poor countries, providing a higher standard of living. And although this higher standard of living would increase comsumption, it would create a better educated populace in these poorer countries, bettering their goverments, and uh, other stuff too. So yeah, tax the rich unresponsible and give it too poor countries (first in small amounts to allow them to demostrait their ability and desire to establish a responsible goverment). Uh, yeah, you get the idea.

But I suppose that any goverment that did that would get its ass elected out of goverment because people in America (Canada included) wouldn't be willing to lose of the immense wealth that they have. So, what we need is education...

Agreed TAK, you're completley right. who in their right mind is going to willingly take a large cut out of their profits to 'save the environment'? Don't think so.

And education? Ha! Like that's gonna happen.

And even if it did go through, it would lead to small companies being weaseled out and going out of business, bigger companies getting bigger and creating un-healthy monopolies or oligopolies.

And then government would have all this money which they'd probably just waste on sending troops to another country anyway.

So basically, we are so fucked.

yea i agree. the political system is based on two parties that simply aren't compatible. Also, if a candidate wants to be nominated by one party or another he has to ally himself with that party completely, not allowing for his own ideals to drive his political agenda. More independants should run on a moderate platform, but there just isnt enough money to support them. Oh well...

i get pissed about this kinda shit, when people say stupid shit about our country when they have absolutley no idea what the fuck they are talking about. If we don't do something now, it is just going to get worse and worse until, it comes to nuclear war. yeah war is not the greatest thing in the world, but if that is what it comes down to, to save the world from people like sadaam, then i am all for it. Also, people use the 'bush just wants war, clinton didn't have any problems with irag when he was president.' thats bullshit because the first bush started trying to clean up this mess, and then when clinton came in, he just turned his back on the whole situation. By him not doing anything then, look where we are now, and going to be if we don't do something. We cannot let him gain power and threaten to shoot nuc's at every other country in the world. same thing with north korea, same situation, almost identical.

And when the fucks that started this thread say 'yeah war sucks' then not back up there claim, u know they don't have any idea what is happening.

exactly what is going to get worse? iraq bombing the US?... Iraq doesn't even have powerful enough weapons for bombs to reach western europe. it's not even iraq that is bombing the US, and it's not even bombs... it's al qaeda terrorists flying planes into buildings. these are two different things.

and i don't know why there is such a huge urgency for iraq to disarm when the US has a million times more nuclear weapons and biological weapons than any other country. although, it does suck that saddam kills his own ppl. but americans kill americans all the time - good ol' right to bear arms. brilliant.

If we don't do anything and we do get bombed, the country will say 'the government knew about there capabilities the whole time and didn't do anything about it.'

but if we do stop them now, and nothing happens, the same people will say 'see, nothing happened and never would, we should have left them alone.'

it's a no win situation. i would much rather not win, and still be alive, rather that not win and die, for not doing anyhting. wouldn't you?
