Yeah, the iPod is sweet as hell, but costs way too much in my opinion. So I got a 20Gb Creative Nomad JB3 for way cheaper - only bad thing about it is the size (CD player size), but I never ski with music, so it's worth the sacrifice.

 
/\ yeah man, i have the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 20GB, it's awesome. much better priced. sure it's the size of a cd player, but it isn't that bad, very easy to use, very good price.

I have an iPod. Its a 10 gig which is plenty big cause it still holds 2000 songs. You can hold any types of files on it though, not just music. It also has calendar and contacts and stuff. They are sweet. I got mine for $250 and its an old one. I bought it off a kid who won it and he didn't want it. I'm not sure if you could find it at that price anywhere else though.

yeah, there sweet, they Ipod 2 is coming out, its a little smaller, and has a bigger drive. It can also carry other files besides mp3, so its almost like a minuature hard drive. And mp4's are coming out, so you'll be able to fit so many songs on it. I dont even have that many songs that I like.

yea, i got a 5GB. i got it for x-mas and it owns... i also have a song MP3 and a Sony MiniDisc and i like the ipod alot more. really simple to use and all... and if your planing on getting one, get the newer one because instead of paying 300 for a 5GB, yo can pay 300 for a 10GB, they are also thiner.

Dont waste your money on a 20 gig. I have a 10 and havent even filled it halfway, theres no way the average person can fill 20 gigs of space.

 
yea, its really not worth the extra 100 bucks, you really dont need 20GB, thats a little rediculous, just get the new ipods, now its 10GB for 300 instead of 300 for a 5GB.

First off, mp4 is a video codec, not an audio codec.

Second, you can already use the ipod as a removable firewire drive.

Third, there is no 'ipod 2' as you put it. They just released a slimmed-down version of the ipod, with a few other tweaks and additions but it's far from an ipod2!

Well I've got 9 gigs and counting on my 20Gb JB3. Of course there is stuff that I rarely listen to now that I could delete to make space, but it's cool not to have to worry about that. Plus more space means you can rip stuff at better quality. And if you're into photography, the extra space means you can back up a whole lot of stuff.

Can you use the iPod as as extrernal hard drive in Windows/OS-X though? The one thing I really don't like about the JB3 is the interface - you have to use Creative shitty software or download some third-party stuff - there's no drag and drop integration. Otherwise, solid unit - much better value for money if you don't mind the size.

 
And yeti - I'm pretty sure mp4 audio is being/has been developed - not certain though. What's the news with mp3-pro? I read quite a bit about it about 6 months ago, but nothing since - has it been dropped?

 
it may be in development, but right now i know mp4 codecs are only available for video, unless i've totally missed something.

try ogg vorbis. you'll be happy.
