i am thinking of asking for an ipod for x-mas so can you download your cd's onto it by like plugging it into your computer, or what? thanks

yah dude, you can rip your cd's into mp3's then put them on your ipod, you can download mp3's with a file sharing program, or download songs from itunes music store...ipod is the way to go tho man, don't waste your time or money on some other ripoff

The battery issue? I assume your talking about the batteries dying after a LONG time using the ipod? Because they have a 12hr battery life which is pretty rediculous. Also, i've read that the battery issue (with them dying) has been somewhat resolved and it costs significantly less to replace the batteries now.

the battery life on the 4th gen. ipod's is 12 hours now, and the 15 hours for the ipod photo's! i used my 3rd gen. all last season, i'd have it out all day in the cold and i think it only died once out of the entire season, when it was -6 and i'd been out all day! they last dude, don't let some Rio-humper try and tell you differently.

maybe mine just fucking sucks then, its bran new an id say i get no more than 8 or so hours out of mine, and thats taking all the precautions to prolong it. 8 hours aint enough for a full day of skiing. it would be much better if apple invented something you could change the battery in and out of yourself, kinda like a cell phone one, so you could have a spare. something better will come out soon enough and blow apple out of the water

i got a free ipod. it is dope, but idk, there are better players, atleast bettery wise. The Rio Carbon is so much better then the Ipod Mini, serously. same price, smaller, and much longer batt life! and the new Creative Nomad Zen is a good 20 GIG ipod competitor with 20 hours batt life. ipod sill slimest. The Rio Karma and the Creative Nomad Zen Touth are probably the best 20 GIG ipod competitors. if your gonna be able to charge the batt after 12 hours, the ipod definatly the better choice though.

if by better when you mention nerus you mean 5 times worse, yes. that thing is huge! you need the back pack thing for the full 20 gigs or whatever 40 or 80.... the player itself is only either 128 mb or 256 mb. (the smaller outline thing int he pics you see of it. ya so with the full 20 gigs or more, it is freekin huge and sucks. the irivers are ok but still bigger then ipods...

Ipods are so shitty, 2 of my friends got free ones and they both broke within 3 weeks from the batteries over heating or some shit like that, and another friend had it in his pokcet and broke the screen and its like 180$ to get it repaired. I bought the dell DJ for 150$ and it works flawlessly, ihave had no problems with it breaking and the battery life is a good 16 hours. The only con is that its a little thicker than an ipod and isnt touch pad, but i dont really care its still comfortably fits in my pocket, plus it has a lifetime warranty and the fucking bastards at apple wont rip you off, all their stuff is so gay and overpriced

 
^yeah listen to this guy. i own an ipod, i used it daily all summer long, i still use it daily. the battery life is still as good as it was new, i've had no problems with it.

im not saying every single ipod is a piece of shit that breaks. I'm just letting him know that the people i konw that have ipods have had trouble with them and the myself and my friends that bought the dell dj for 100 dollars cheaper have had 0 problems

 
for anyone having problems with battery life try this:

when you first get anything that runs on a lithion ion battery your supposed to charge it for like 48 hours before using it.

alot of people shit their pants upon purchasing a ipod and listen to it as soon as they get out of the store.

if you didnt charge it for awhile before using it then charge it right now for a couple days to a week.

see if that helps cause it should.

my buddies dad works in a apple retailer downtown and he told me the batteries need to be charged first to fullfill their maximum capacity. and if you dont charge them it can drastically reduce their play time.
