IPod Touch jailbreak questions

Alright, so my iPod touch 2g has been jailbroken for about a month. Its been running slower, the settings crashes, any app I close crashes etc. I would like the new 4.0 firmware. Is there any way I can get the new firmware without restoring my iPod. I don't care if the jailbroken apps are deleted, I just want to unjailbreak, get the new firmware, and NOT loose any data. Thanks.

No unfortunately, apple can detect the jailbreak software so if you update the ipod it will freeze and be unusable. You will have to restore it, but there is back-up software that can store all your games/music/software so you can put it back on. So back-up then restore and then update and then jailbreak the new update and it will work better.

alright, backing up takes forever but I'll probably just restore

True, but it will be faster to put the stuff back onto the ipod.

Bumping for my own question.

Just jailbroke 5.1.1 4th gen iPod, what do you recommend downloading from Cydia? Just got Dtunes and Springtomize right now. Also any sources you would have me download to get cool shit??
