Ipod Space

So i have an ipod mini that holds 1000 songs. and one day i went to update my songs and it said not enough space. it would only let me put 300 songs on there. the only way isupport helps me is that it would delete all my songs. so i was wonderin if anyone had any better ideas or how to save my library to my harddrive not to a usb stick or external drive?

it doesnt hold 1000 songs it has 4gigs of space which is approximately 1000 songs according to apple the fact that its only holdng 300 must mean that its either broke or you're songs are really big file size wise

exactly, what are the quality of your songs. 128kh or something like that is the norm.

sounds like you're running 350 or so.

I think its suppose to be like 1000 168kb/s 3 min long songs or soemthing. You porbally have some fatty ass hour long songs on it, or some files someone put on in disk mode.

it says it hold 4 gb and i have 964 songs on itunes and that makes it 3.93 gb.

but when i go to itunes, edit, prefrences, ipod, it says it has 1.3 gb>?

Wait so your iPod will only hold 300 when its supposed to hold 1000 and you bothered by the songs on iTunes? Im lost

nevermind bout that. but now i did everything and my ipod is completely restored. but now when i click update ipod it says "the ipod cannot be updated. the disk cannot be read fromt or written to"

wats up

tahts becasue when it has absolutley nothing on it...it has 4g...i have a 30 and my about says i onyl ahve 27.8g fresh like with no songs of vids/pics on it...all the organizing software on it takes up space...

the ipod "operating system" and system data and shit takes up space. its like when you get a 100gb drive with youre computer. you wont have a full 100gbs.

While that's partially true, the majority of the 'lost' space is due to marketing.

Hard drive manufacturers (and vendors) report hard drive sizes in base 10. Your computer/iPod/etc uses base 2.

So.. 1GB to a HDD maker is 10^3 (1000) megabytes, which is 10^3 kilobytes, which is 10^3 bytes.

But to your computer, 1GB (Technically, GiB) is 2^10 (1024) megabytes, which is 2^10 kilobytes, which is 2^10 bytes.

So, your 4GB drive is actually 3.7 computer GB.
