ipod battery

everyone seems to claim that the ipod battery lasts up to 12 hours, it even says it on the website. how long do all of you get out of your battery, mines a 20 gig and bran spankin new the little battery meter on the top is at empty after just under 6 hours. i know its not exact but is it even possible for it to be 6 hours off?

its weird, if you have the dock it lasts longer, just plan on using it during a day and charge it while your sleeping

yea, mine runs out so fast, even if i charge it all night, but it'll say that it's out, and then keep going for ours. it runs out slower if you keep the backlight off and don't blare the volumn, or so i've heard

if u use the backlight or turn it on and off. it uses more battery than just playing music continuisly.. but yes the battery isn't as good as it says it is.. but its still decent

the 12 hour number is based off of ideal conditions, ie no backlight, no on or off, and something that wasnt said before.... no shuffle or touching buttons. the 12 is literally turning the ipod on, playing the library, and putting it on hold. and keeping it at the correct temp. the clickwheel ipod has a new shuffle that gives you better battery, where as the reg. 20 will DESTROY battery life if you put it on shuffle, the prob lies in the fact that the hard drive uses the most battery, so any extra use of the hard drive will mess you up

i dont think that has ahppened in a while. there was this site that you could get replacement batteries for $30 and it came with everything you need, including detailed instructions to replace the battery

ya dude, in general with batteries, it is better to only plug them in until they are fully charged and then un plug them. also, i heard, atleast for the first few times, and probably in gneeral, it is better to not charge ti untill it is fully discharged. all this, i heard helps the lfe of rechargable batteries. and also, on my ipod to make the battery last longer between charges, i have the backlight aloways off and if you turn off the eq it helps too and i would imagine if you listen to it at a lower volume that would help and if you turn down the contrast that will help probably.

Most batteries have a memory, where if you only use it part way, then charge it to full again, it will die much faster. Or if you don't charge it to full every time.

battery life also depends on operating temperature, whether you have the EQ or sound check on, or how often you skip a song. skipping a song requires more disk reads than just playing out the list. these reads require more battery, so to keep your battery lasting the 12 hours, dont skip songs.

only NiCD batteries have a memory problem.

NiMH batteries prefer to be drained right down before each charge but it's not necessary.

Lithium-Ion batteries like the one in the ipod prefer to be kept topped up as much as possible and it's actually bad for the battery to deep cycle it.

mine goes for about 10 hours. at least a whole car trip home from yootah. thats if i charge from the computer. if i go from the wall i get about six.

its like when u buy a new DV camera.. u have to use it and build up the battery power.. u gotta use it and dont keep the backlight on.. dont play with the scroll wheel, contstantly turn the hold on/off switch songs.. u can create playlists to solve the problems of listeing to ur fav's.. people over exxagerate the ipod battery life negatively.. the fact is, ipod is the leader in music player sales besides cd players.. it is great, easy to find, user friendly, and somewhat stylish..
