iphoto "hides" all its photos so taht you can't move them, because if you move them it fucks all iphoto up. What you need to do is open iphoto, right-click on one of your pictures and select "show in finder" or something like that.
it's going to open a new window with your photo highlighted, and all the other ones in the same directory. Congratulations, you've now entered iphoto's secret, invisible garden. now you can navigate and take all the photos you wnat, but i suggest COPYING them to another place, because if you just move them iphoto wil spend hours trying to find the new file where it previously was and its going to be really fucked up. iPhoto doesn't hide them. I don't know where you go that. Unless something has changed in the new iPhoto (which I doubt).
Go to your pictures folder. Then click iPhoto Library. There should be a bunch of folders that have your pictures. They're arranged by date.
Using show in finder is probably easier and you should copy it somewhere else if you're going to manipulate it so you don't confuse iPhoto.

just saw in another thread that you said it was hidden in iLife 08. Thats really stupid.

well, not really. If you move a file, the whole library is going nuts and ends up going corrupted, so what Apple did was "hide" that library, so people get the idea that they're not supposed to move the pictures on and on. And if you actually know how to get to the actual file (through iphoto), then it's just a useful features for the dumb and reckless, and a somewhat pain for the others (but remember how hard it was to find a photo in that library with all these folders with 04325406523u690342names?)
