Hey gals, hope youre all doing well!

With

the ski season finally upon me, im heading off to the Alps for the Xmas

break. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any Iphone apps to

improve my trip. Im kinda looking for something that can give me

weather, run maps altitude, speed distance etc?

Cheers, B

AVi. The first avalanche beacon app for the iPhone. It uses local P2P WiFi connections, GPS and Bluetooth connections. It doesn't require an Internet connection or cell service, but if either of those options are available it will automatically send off a geotagged message to EMS personnel and any other AVi user in the area. It's also compatible with certain types of non-iPhone, real avy beacons.

The main features include:
Find My Buddy (works similarly to a typical avalanche beacon)
Check In (pushes location to your friends so they know you're safe)
Emergency (automatically pushes location and data to EMS personnel)

I was surprised; it's as functional as a typical beacon, and it doesn't drain battery life as I expected it would. It hasn't replaced by actual beacon yet (for fear) but I'm beginning to think my fears are unfounded.

AVi is relatively cheap given its feature set too. It's $29.99 in the App Store.

I wish there was more attention given to android apps, all these companies make many apps for both phones.

i use like Powder Report or something like that and it tells me like what chairs are open, new snowfall, trails open, and other shit. But the user interface is a little meh.

Then there is a ski trail map that is useful for looking at the trail maps.

Then we have My Tracks from Google which records where you go, and I haven't tried it yet (will tomorrow), but from what I understand it tracks distance traveled vertically and all that shit.

I just use the web browser if I want to see resort info too i guess.
