IP Ban? +k for help

So my school banned me from the university's wireless internet about 4 months ago. No warning or notification or anything--just one day I couldn't get on. I've tried a bunch of different things no luck.

Now today they just banned me from accessing a ton of websites using the ethernet port in my room (since I can't get on wireless). I can't use google, can't check my email, can't use youtube, etc. Thank god I can still get on NS though. I've tried using proxy avoidance, that didn't work. I think they have my IP address banned. Is there any way to get around this?

I think its from downloading torrents (which I don't even do that much) but since they never notified me of anything I have no way to know for sure.

as long as you dont dl a shit ton of stuff, and dont seed your shit, they probs wont ever know.

OP try contacting your school about it, ask your ra/whoever might be able to point you in the right direction. just dont tell em you dl'd shit, just be like "my internet dosent work, could you tell me why" and hope they dont know you torrented anything haha.

anyone else?

Yeah I think there's a tech office somewhere around here that I'm going to pay a visit to. But I'm worried that if I tell them my wireless stopped working and now certain websites are blocked they're going to know exactly what I was up to so I'd rather try and fix it myself if possible.

Douche. Your reallize how dumb people are about downloading music. It's be a real bitch to get in trouble for downloading lady gagas discography.

Usually that is flagging your MAC address, and not your IP. At this point you will pretty much just have to suck it up and talk to the tech department. They aren't going to charge you for downloading stuff, probably just punishing you for using excessive bandwidth

yea, they are most likely just waiting for you to call so they can tell you how bad of a person you are

then they'll open everything back up for you

I have downloaded at least 50 albums since i've been at university and my internet has never been taken away... although a bunch of kids have had theirs taken away, so i guess i'm just lucky... anyways, all they had to do was like delete the shit they downloaded or delete their torrent program and then go and take it to some dudes to get it back up.

Maybe put all the shit you downloaded on an external hard drive and then see if you can get your internet again?

I bet as long as you dont seed you're good. Seeding is the illegal part, because then you are the one distributing it

Too distracting. I dont want some homosexual sheep bouncing off the walls distracting me when Im trying to read a thread

this.. or go suck up to them, got your internets back and whenever you download just change your MAC address. It's super simple if you use ubuntu or something similar

Kids on this site have enough trouble posting pics and embedding videos.... how many of them are gonna use linux?

If you still feel like fighting back change your mac address as someone said before. Or try and hack through a neighbors wireless network if it really is an ip ban.
However it's probably more smart to go to the tech people and play stupid. Delete any torrenting clients from your computer and delete all your temporary internet files. Check to make sure there is no trace on your computer. Hope that the school doesn't keep logs on your traffic(even if they do and you don't download too much then you should be fine)

Thanks for the advice +k to all (except the abortionist--you never once have said anything positive in any of my threads. I'm sick of your condescending bullshit. Fuck you. /rant).

I think I'm going to suck it up and move everything to an external and then delete it from my computer. Does anyone know if I have to delete applications though? Even if I registered them offline with a working serial? Or are they going to have a record of specific things I've downloaded? I don't have a problem with moving my music and deleting my torrent client but I'd rather not uninstall the few applications I've torrented.

I got banned from my schools wireless for torrenting. I downloaded album here and there, never seeded. Went to the tech department and had them turn it back on after about a month of no internet. They made me sign a document that if i ever torrented from their internet again i get expelled. Pretty harsh.

UPDATE: I just got back from the IT office. This dude that sits next to me in my accounting class fixed everything and when he was done he was just like, "yeah next time you torrent use a proxy outside of the US"

nice.

a litte tip, in stead of using torrents, when i lived on campus last year and the year before i used rapisahre, mediaire, megaupload those types of site. all i did was go to google and type the following:

(the band name) + (album name) + rapidshare (or mediafire, megaupload, etc)

so like if i wated sex pistols never mind the bullocks i would type:

sex pistols nevemind the bullocks rapidshare (or mediafire, megaupload in place of rapidshare)

that should help at least until you get off of campus.

and then using rapidsahre is easy, click on download for free, wait until the timer expires then click download. BOOM, youre done.
