Invert Laws

Here in Michigan (and im sure its true in other states as well) inverts are not allowed and considered illegal. The other night the manager at my local hill gave some other skiers and me a lecture about how he would rip our passes and call the cops if anyone did anymore inverts. He then went on to explain how we could be arrested for 'attempted suicide.' Just because i throw a backflip it means im trying to kill myself? Whats up with that? Anyone else have the same problems?

That's just the law at most places, it's probably not going to change due to the liability. Here at Breck all it says is 'Inverts are not recommended' but they're still allowed I guess.

that doesn't sound right, the reason they are not allowed is because they can potentially be held liable if you do in invert and hurt/kill yourself on a jump at their resort. either their insurance will forbid it, or they will

same thing with bogus basin (near boise idaho). you can do inverts else you get your pass pulled and shit. it sucked, but i never really wanted to try it cuz my dad was on ski patrol :(

I'm from michigan too and yesterday a kid told me it was $100 dollar fine for doing an invert in Michigan. I don't think thats true but I know most places don't allow it.

My girlfriend told me to shove my skis up my ass

yeah i'm from washington state and we have crystal mountain and I think its owned by the same place that runs boyne (spelling) and a few other resorts and they have a no invert policy because its owned by a single person, not a corporation and so this guys is held responsible for it if something happens, its all about insurance. for me it'd just be more incentive to toss them, just hide your pass, FIGHT THE SYSTEM!

the magazine is called 'POWDER' cool! - my stupid non-skiing friend

We have a no invert rule now because a kid broke his leg trying a backflip. The ski patrol put up a sign that say 'No Inverts'. It has a picture of a skier and snowboarder upside down and they look really stupid.

yeah i just got my pass pulled for doin my malden bomber and he was like you know inverts are illegal we have signs up... and i was like im certified to do them .. and he gave me a load of shit and warned my friend before for doion inverts and he didnt get his pass pulled it was bull shit

thats gay. here we have an invert thing. It sounds wierd but it is 'Only do inverts if oyu can do them' meaning make sure u know what u r doin. Also, How are u supposed to progress if u can;t do inverts??

haha. screw you all. in Minnesota we don't have any resorts with stupid rules like that. I'm not really the one to talk, though, because i can't do any inverts yet. but all the same, i can if i want to:-p

I'm not sure if it's 'illegal' to do inverts all across Michigan or not... are you saying there's an actual law against it? At Crystal, yeah, there are no inverts allowed... but for the most part the patrollers will look the other way if you're experienced and know what you're doing, as long as you aren't right under the lift or in a comp or something. But there are a few assholes out there who will nab you for it. I'm not sure about the Boynes or not... do they have no-invert rules?

I hope the Huck Finn comps allow inverts, because if they don't I'm going to RAGE on someone's ass.

It wouldn't suprise me if it was an actual law. In Vermont it's a state law that you have to put down the bar on the lift. Believe it.

Aspen doesnt care about inverts, but if you kill yourself your family cant sue the skico if you were attempting an invert. But Sunlight, like an hour away, doesnt allow them, but they wont call the cops.

yeah here we got those signs up but there are never any patrollers in the park to catch you doin em, so we just set a watch and someone looks up the hill to make sure there are no patrollers and the person will hit the jump when the watcher says it is clear

our resort doesn't allow them and yesterday we got a lecture for doin backflips off a boulder

I think ski patrol should leave the park alone unless someone gets hurt...I realiza all the liability shit, but I think VERY resort should have some sort of process where skiers can sign a waver and get some sort of pass to allow them to do inverts, it makes oh so much sense! Even if it was just for members of the hill, that'd be fine too. Cause most people doin backflips are members, so...

who agress?

I NY you cant go inverted inless you have a licnces or are a Pro, alot of people do anyways. I dont know what you have to do to get the licnces.

Appskier,

We had that rule before charlie messed himself up.. they got that no invert sign this summer , they were just real quick to put it up after that incident...

at my local hill in New York the owner makes people sign a waiver saying they are wiving all responsibility away from the mountain...

It was funny, at Crystal Mountain on the old Loki Double they used to have a sign stating that law and they took it down the year after they opened 'Glacier Valley Glade Area'

I just know about the law cause when i was in like 5th grade we were skiin in the woods Vincent and Abendroth's at Crystal and some weird ski patroller made a big deal of it and we got these things with the law on it, and a big orange lift ticket that said 'I am learning to Ski Safely' in big black bold letters. It was funny.

i just found out today that the canyons dosnt allow inverts, even in comps (unless ur certified) and i had some friends who got disqualified from the comp because they went inverted, thats pretty stupid but i guess its cause the canyons is poor as hell in terms of ski resorts and they must have shaky insurance

In mt creek, nj the ski patrol isnt even allowed in the terrain park at all(unless someone gets hurt), and i talked to the park guys and they were saying that if they ever came for any reason other than to help someone that was hurt he would kik their ass out and i thought that was pretty funny.

Haha... my God... legislators have way too much time on their hands. I wonder how many laws we break every single day, laws that no one's ever heard of that are buried deep in the state archives. We'd probably all go to jail for life. No wonder political smear campaigns are so prevalent... there are so many dumb laws to break.

Let's see, how many crimes do I commit when I go skiing? I break the speed limit laws on the way to the hill... I commit trespassing by not buying a ticket... break the state no-invert law... then there's under-age drinking, maybe some pot... noise pollution.... profanity in front of minors...

--Disgruntled and Nostalgic Crazed Posting Bro!--

yeah, we had a big air comp at my school and I got disqualified for doing a invert, almost a dettention when I did it again. that would have been sweet though if I had got a detention for skiing. I ski at Smuggs and Stowe and they don't care at all even though they have signs up.

My old mountain, Pomerelle, ID, had a shitty big air comp every year. I got disqualified two years in a row, I bombed it from the top and launched a massive backflip... good times.

--Disgruntled and Nostalgic Crazed Posting Bro!--

whats the worst that can happen? them take away there pass, your not gonna get fined for doing inverts and your defantly not going to jail so when they give u shit just make sure u hid your pass and say you'vr been poaching there park all day... I'm sure they will like that, haha

'Joyride Flims'

Hehe, we have one BIGASS Ugly sign at the top of our hill that says, 'USE AT OWN RISK' basically and talks about varying terrain and yada yada yada. But you get the drift.

The ski patrol here at Powderhorn CO, is a bunch of fucking dipshits. I got in trouble with them 3 times today. And they put me on there 'black list' for doing the rainbow rail when a ski patrol got in the way of the landing. So now if they talk to me again they can take my pass for the rest of the season. Its bullshit i tell you BULLSHIT

hey B-Wald, that park guy wont actually pull your pass unless your purposely an ass to him. He has to do that when he is on the hill though or he will loose his job, otherwise he has no problem with you doing them, just make sure he isnt around and he doesnt care. Most ski patrol dont even care
