Intro photo comments

so about the NS intro photo of Jordan Seldin in Grizzly Gulch, UT:

i feel as though this photo has sick lighting and is from a good angle, but captures the skier in the air while he has terrible style.

this is not to say that Seldin, as a skier, has terrible style; but couldn't NS have picked another shot where the skier is in a position with some aesthetically-pleasing body position and grab? this shot looks like the skier is bending over to do aerobics with some 70-year-olds while he is off-balance.

what's up with this?

does anyone feel the same way?

its sick cuz it a typical nser....................................................................hitting chads gap

damn that blows nuts eh? i havent actually taken a good look at the pic yet, but i just got owned hardcore

i like it,captures the skier at an angle we don't ussually see. some people might not even know its a skier. unique photo.

im just saying, you seem to really hate the pic and say the skier sucks... but i would like to see you get a pic like that. im not trying to hate on you im just saying that gotama deserves a little better than the "this pic sucks and the skier obviously does too"

wazzu,

read my 3rd paragraph: i'm clearly saying that it's not the skier i'm disliking. what i don't like, however, is the skier's body positioning the moment this shot was taken. and i'm surprised other people do like it.

its a picture dick.

newschoolers doesnt have every fucking moment in time to choose from for the front page, but they did see a unique picture and decided to put it up.

and its not like the photographer has alot of power over the skier's body postioning.

this was most likely the best shot out of a sequence.

so fuck your opinions.

wow way to bash someone for stating what they think. I thought the same thing when I first saw it, right after I said damm thats a sick picture. So if you like if good for fucking you he was just stating his mind and not being an e-pussy.

I having a little trouble understanding that last sentence.

The picture itself is incredible.

hey, sorry if i sounded like i was hating on you but i wasnt trying to. i was just saying that it sounded like you were saying that you thought he had horrible style, and while i think that is a valid opinion, is it really necessary to make a thread devoted to you dissing his picture. maybe... maybe not, i just think that a little more respect on this site would go a long way.

again, sorry if i seemed like i thought you were stupid in any way.

HAGGAR,

actually,

NS most likely has a ton of photos to choose from that are submitted to them or ones that they could acquire.

there are over 100 photogs out there shooting skiing, and there aren't enough media outlets to run the best ski pics. therefore, there's an overflow of really good images that we, the public, don't even have a chance to see.

as you brilliantly pointed out, the photographer does not have the ability to position the skier's body in the air; but, he does have the power to pick and choose the photos worth submitting. (just as a photographer wouldn't submit a shot that's out of focus, he shouldn't be submitting a photo with wack skier style!)

same goes for whoever at NS picks these shots. whoever puts that shot up there didn't have to run a photo that portrays a skier's style looking like that.

my final point: if NS is going to run one intro photo for a month on end, i expect it to be perfect in every way. that means the ski action should be ridiculously gnarly, the skier's style should be aesthetically awesome, the camera angle and composition should be original, the lighting should be exceptional, and the image should be perfectly exposed and in focus.

wow you expect alot. If you have such a strong oppinion back it up with a picture that is "perfect in every way." I agree that that picture isnt the best Ive ever seen, but its unique and definately worthy for an intro photo in my opinion.

yeah, that kid doesnt understand photography.

the skier postion is not perfect, but shit, everything else (the composition, the angle, even the exposure) are fucking rad.

it's supposed to be all

"OMG, WE HAD IT ALL WRONG, IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL, MAKING THIS "STYLE" JUST TO LOOK GOOD FOR OTEHR PEOPLE IS GAYT, LET'S JUST HAVE FUN!!!"

Good style is a very subjective term. I think the picture is awesome, and I really like the position that Cody caught him in. Everything else about the picture is amazing as well, and I wouldn't change a thing about it. If you're going to whine about it, at least give constructive criticism instead of saying his style sucks.

a lot of people on this sight have e-anger management problems. i personally agree. i like the pic, but dislike the skier's body position. the lighting etc makes my dick twitch, so there.
