Intrawest just bought Steamboat

not that i like how intrawest comes in and makes everything turn into a city, but american skiing company was screwing the place up pretty good

steamboat lost its charm years ago when it started shuffling ownership. still a sick resort if you know where to go. far enough from denver that you don't get all the assholes but a big enough airport means you get even more texans and tourists.

Intrawest was purchased a month or two ago by a large holdings company. They are no longer under the same ownership as what you have previously experienced. I don't know what that means for change to the running of the company. Typically the reason for an acqusition by a holding company like this one would be to revamp the existing inventory, maybe buy up some new inventory (such as this case) and then dump as much money as possible into everything and then somewhere down the road sell it off to a new holding company at a profit.

If anything, it means that all Intrawest resorts are going to have way more amenities over the coming years...which would also likely include larger budgets for the terrain and access. A good thing for sure.

BTW, ASC was also just recently purchased. The ski resort industry as a whole is seeing a large acquisition and investment throughout the entire continent over the next few years. This is a very healthy thing.

ASC doesn't seem any better at all... they've jacked ticket prices at sugarloaf to $73, and have been building condos faster than anything i've seen in the past two years.

yeah i live in ny just ski at creek. When i went to VT i stuck out like a sore thumb being from the bronx. Even when i wasnt being an asshole, just the way i talked made ppl from VT look at me like i was talking shit.

the wp/copper pass blows. If it wasn't half price for students only retards from denver would buy it. WP is probably the worst ski area, and no one is going to drive the extra distance to Steamboat more than a couple times a year. all aspects of the ski industry minus this site, blow. Fuck the man.

steamboat will never be the same

which sucks

but this is great news

because it shows that the group that bought intrawest is actually interested in the winter resort aspect

yeah to an intrawest affiliate. just like steamboat was sold to SAC another intrawest affiliate.... we'll see tho, whethor or not mammoth is on the pass, this is still really sick.

yea im kinda pissed steamboat wont be the same...

having everything park & all related events put on the shit end of a stick, and being put in such an area where places with 400ft of vertical in PA can have a longer park. God, that pissed me off so much, now we might actually have a real park, I dont want that shit here. We're a god damn family resort, we dont need a park "that is just going to attract punk snowboarders" GOSH im pissed.

Yah, for those of you who haven't, check out panorama. Sweet resort. The back bowls are loaded with powder and they have a decent park once it's set up.
