Into the mind

hahahahaha

You seem to be the most close minded person in this thread. Guess what? Some people don't like it. Get over it. Is that how you react when people don't like your favourite album?

I'm the close minded one? You have to be fucking joking. You're either a complete imbecile or fucking with me.

I agree with him. You have to at least consider some of the criticisms that are being put fourth. You have just convinced yourself that this is the greatest creation to grace our mighty earth.

No way, I accepted every criticism, what I was talking about was dumb fucking kids saying "that was so boring, its just scenic shots".

Yes, I did enjoy this movie but im not fucking blinded. Maybe read my posts.

If that's the case I thought partly cloudy was mediocre at best. Same old same old. Nothing new.

Maybe I should post that in the Partly cloudy thread and see how it goes over...

Point is kids on here don't appreciate skiing in the MOUNTAINS. It's become the next "cool thing" and they just want to see the next rail banger shot from their favorite pro. EVH was spot on when he said what he said and people hating on this movie proves his point.

cant-tell-if-stupid-or-trolling.jpg

I still can't figure out how people are complaining about the skiing in this movie it was insane and music fit it perfectly. Especially the part with the electric pow wow mix the song complemented the intense feelings of the lines they were skiing.

i enjoy watching all skiing , this moving sucked and didnt have enough i would actually watch edits rather then it . The actual skiing parts in this movie were unreal all the other artsy shit not so cool

Thats fine, again i respect legit opinions.

Into the Mind isn't suppose to be a ski porn movie.

I just watched it and was shockingly disappointed. It is a great ski film if you want to watch Planet Earth. If you want to watch actual skiing and not just shots of waves, nature, and sherpas get Partly Cloudy instead, it actually has skiing. The small amounts of skiing were awesome and the cinematography was unreal, but lets be honest I bought it to watch skiing.

I wouldn't generalize so much, I would consider myself more of a park skier than a big mountain skier and I definitely enjoy park and urban segments in most ski movies however I enjoyed Into the Mind far more than any other ski movie I've seen. This is because Into the Mind evoked a feeling on me, generally when watching ski movies I feel I get more out of urban and park segments than big mountain segments however into the mind really drew me in.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the banger shots in most ski movies are usually what gets me hyped up, Into the Mind got me hyped up on mountain skiing through exceptional (mountain) skiing, filming, cinematography and sound.

^Man just wait till you get the chance to ski real pow:) you will never go back to park, well you probably will but you will always think about that perfect pow line.

I had no idea what to expect going into the film. We watched partly cloudy the night before this and after watching into the mind I couldn't believe what id seen. There really needs to be more creativity in level 1, pbp, msp shits old and boring. I see banger after banger and can't get stoked cuz I just want something bigger and badder. Maybe try and tell a story and draw the viewer in and show how much effort and will power actually goes into skiing these gnarly lines. I say ski films should take a note from Jeremy jones and Sherpa add a little heart into it and show the viewer another side of the industry.

Two different beasts there, I recommend seeing both. The Sweetgrass boys don't have the helis and mind boggling production value. But they have an eye for cinematography and story-telling like nobody else and it was all shot beautifully on Epics. The fact that they actually had to spend all day hiking on these mountains freezing, waiting for riders, taking in the whole experience really rubs off on the film and I think the viewer gets that much more of a personal experience in Valhalla. They both really went out and did something new and different and told a story but in their own ways, Sweetgrasses story being a little more direct, and a little easier to relate with in my opinion. I guess I am biased because I worked on Valhalla, but I enjoy the story more and I think the riding is right up to Par with Sherpas. Also the Jungle segment is enough of a reason to watch the film on its own! Sherpas and Valhalla are most definitely the best films of the year, so much more went in to them then any other film I have seen this year, I 100 percent recommend watching both.

I am super stoked to see it when it comes into the area in two weeks. I cant wait to see it. Hopefully my friends buy it before, but I cant imagine they will...

You're right, I was making blanket statements with regards to everyone being a kid wanting to see the next huge rail trick.

I think the people hating though are probably as single minded as me(sometimes) but in regards to just wanting to see bangers. I really hope people appreciate it for what it is and don't get pissed off because it doesn't have bangers over and over again. I also get hyped on watching a TGR or PBP or level one movie but I also appreciate the beauty of skiing and the aspects that this movie really touched on.

The movie was not meant to be ski porn. it was meant to be a cinematic experience.

hence the lack of skiing.

I personally loved every bit of the film

solid critique. i think the fact that we have films such as into the mind is a sign that the ski industry is evolving. Not to a place where this sort of film will be the norm, but that we will be able to have a more well rounded variety of films every season. for that I'm thankful.

I will need to rewatch the movie to really get into things but my first impressions echo what a lot of people have said here:

- Yes, the filming is next level. Absolutely stunning.

- The ski mountaineering shots are awesome.

- I loved the story

I would agree with many that it was slightly over edited. The multitude of cuts almost made my head hurt.

One scene in particular seemed like they were "trying too hard" and seems to contradict the rest of the movie. The Owl/Bald Eagle/Hawk scene clearly used staged/trained birds, which may seem like I'm nitpicking but to me didn't vibe at all with the visceral, authentic nature and native american theme of the rest of the movie.

I thought it was pretty sick, and some of those lines were gnarly as hell; however, I got somewhat bored watching it because it is very long and there are more special effects than actual skiing. That being said, on a filming/editing standpoint, this movie rocks. Definitely worth the watch, but it seemed to be more of a Hollywood movie than a ski film.

Does it have the same obnoxious global warming bullshit as All.I.Can with that wacko environmentalist?

Of so, I'll just wait until JP's segment is up on the youtubes.

What's the time lapse porn to ski porn ratio?

This movie completely blew away all the norms of not only ski movies but cinematography in general. The effect and shots are mind blowing. This is a almost completely cimema-focused movie, so someone used to a Level 1 type movie will be very surprised. JP comes back with a new and very different street segment with Tom Wallisch himself. 110% recommended.

I gotta say, even though I love seeing the awesome skiing that comes out of Mike Hornbeck and Karl Fostvedt every year on the Poor Boyz and Level 1 movies, it is basically the same thing every year. Now I have not yet seen Into The Mind, but from what I hear it is pushing the boundaries of ski films, trying to make something completely new. It seems like Sherpas is trying to make more than just a ski movie, and that is exactly what I'm looking to see. Can't wait for the DVDs to start shipping so I can see how my prediction compares.

I'm really glad that I watched it on the comedown from an acid trip. Really spoke to me man. Everything is connected and beats to the drum of life. One love.

Just finished watching it.

Amazing. Some gnarly skiing and the "story" was well told even with no narration.

I did however prefer JP's street segment in All.I.Can, but this one is a close 2nd.

I wrote the following while watching this 'masterpiece.' Nope, I don't doo sympathy. No, I didn't like the movie. Good thing it was only 12 bucks.

My room mate walked in while I'm watching this.

"Why are you watching planet earth, football is on?"

Seriously, I'm not finished with it, but fuck this is a whacked out movie.

Planet earth, birds, old Tibetan dude, birds, time lapse, scitzophrenic snowboarder, birds, more mountains, a little bit of awesome skiing, a south amaerican desert wtf? Dead bird on kye's head...are all pro skiers this dumb? Sweet some environmental bullshit, birds, retarded and soon to be dead mountaineers (who splits up? Honestly Darwin Award in the making), birds, and donkeys, little bit more skiing but its so edited I have no idea what they did. Ooooo, lets be all cool and hip with these native Americans doing a dance as we absurd their music with dubstep, any other culture we can fuck with while being sensitive. Drums, moar birds, dead bird transition to ICU.

Seriously they managed to make this horseshit epileptic and boring at the same fucking time. Back to planet fucking earth now, except over head edited, and no fucking penguins (yet). Look a tropical wave just turned to fresh snow. And a guy is wearing gortex in the ocean; what an idiot. Good snowboarder though. Insert shit surf shots that have nothing to do with the movie here. Did you know all pro skiers and snowboarders wish they were pro surfers.

Buffalo skiers and birds - another dumb surf shot- that Tom Wallisch is really good at this - how much did they pay him?

I saw that big horn in Travis Rice's film too!

Huh? Kyaking too? Wtf? Back to the fucking ICU. MY HANDS!!!

How did I get here? Oh yeah, I was that retarted mountaineer from scene uno.

More motion sickness.

Hey some more skiing, I bet they will ruin it with a bird montage soon, nope he crashed.

I bet this is a good film if you are a anti-depressant abusing chain smoking skier racking up unaffordable student loan debt on your sixth year of a film studies major at some privet jerkoff liberal arts college for those looking to 'express them selves' at local organic coffee shops. Maybe less eye liner dude.

Hey the Tibetan dude is back, still spinning his spindle.

Movie might be half over or something, fuck if I know.

It going to be a bitch for Ian Macintosh to summit Denali with 192 Shiros and dukes. Fastest decent ever? That was actually cool. Why didn't they edit in some nativ Americans, surfing or birds? Totally could have fucked it up like everything else. Eew, ugly people face montage.

Back to old man with spindle.

This chapter title came from game of thrones.

I'd be pissed if you bought heli time to film me skinning and boot packing up a mountain.

This whole 'story line' is a bunch of non sequiturs.

Mandatory shot of moon goes here

Enough game of thrones titles allready.

Mom of retarded mountaineer is now showing a photo album to said mountaineer and having flashbacks. Snow is disappearing. This would be sad, but I don't do sympathy.

Is that a glue on old man beard? Ok, I was going to delete all the shit I said about being a retarded mountaineer, but that was too stupid.

Almost a stupid as going at it alone... Predicted how that would turn out...

And now the old Tibetan dude has some photos.

You spin me round, right round, right round.

Black screen, is this the end?

Now you guilt trip me into feeling bad about writing this? Yes I miss some of those people too.

Back to a slide show off all the people who you are sending invoices too. In order to pay for this schizophrenic motion sickness.

Hope that mountaineer is ok. Seriously I do, sucks when people get hurt. Hope he recovered, filed that one under 'lessons learned' and gets back too it.

Went to the Portland, Maine premiere last night. Pissed before it started cause some little shits knocked some guys beer all over my feet trying to catch a hat or some shit. But anyways I was really really glad I saw it in a venue that had such good acoustics a big ass screen and lots of speakers. Sure I appreciated the quality and te production and the sound blew my mind but it just wasn't for me. I'm on mobile so I'm not going to give all my thoughts but it was getting sick of that spinning thing and the guys face that made me sick to my stomach, also the motion sickness was startingto set I after the hundredth transition. Also was I the only one who could barely tell what was happening in the urban segment?

By far biggest waste of $13 ive ever spent, my g/f loves watching ski films but asked me to put on partly cloudy on twice during it. will not watch again..

See I don't get people like you. Does it not tire you to see the exact same thing every year? No disrespect to level 1, but I mean come on. Step out your comfort zone.
